Vincent Canby New York Times Kazan seems to have turned his search for identity into a callous soap opera, unworthy of a man of Kazan's true talent. Rated: 2/5 Nov 1, 2007 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times The movie finally pounds at our moral sense so much that our moral sense wearies and becomes defensive, and we are finally just grateful for Faye Dunaway's beauty, and the way she doesn't raise her voice. Rated: 2.5/4 Nov 1, 2007 Full Review Zita Short InSession Film Kerr finds a way to avoid engaging in cheap theatrics. She provides a nice counterbalance to the icy, sleek Dunaway who glides through every scene as she finds a way to explore her character’s deep insecurities... Feb 9, 2023 Full Review Paul Schrader Coast FM & Fine Arts The final result of Kazan's dark night of the soul is, tragically, pure american kitsch. Jun 29, 2020 Full Review Ann Birstein Vogue The movie has all the faults of the book, and then some, and you can't skip pages. May 6, 2020 Full Review Michael Ross Los Angeles Free Press Puffy, artsy to the point of ennui, epic where it should be personal, personal where it doesn't matter, drifting, senseless, pointless, irrelevant and dull. Mike F Disjointed plot and while mildly humorous at times, the bizarre behavior of the lead, portrayed by Kirk Douglas, makes for a story line that is just not very interesting. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/11/23 Full Review delysid d this is a cool movie, but its really hard to watch Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/17/21 Full Review Audience Member Kirk Douglas, Faye Dunaway talents are wasted. I did not watch the whole movie. Too painful. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/12/18 Full Review s r Some serious drama, but it seemed like more of a soap opera than anything. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member 14 % ??? Have you really SEEN this movie ??? Douglas' performance is outstanding and Kazan's work is just beautiful ! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member The is by far the best movie by Kazan. It is an intense film with great performances by all the actors and particularly by Kirk Douglas, a slap to the pretentious, conservative and oppressive society. It is the search of the truth, of what is really meaningful in life even with great sacrifices and it is very unfortunate that all the user reviews did not grasp the essence. Instead much shallower films like Puss in Boots get 83% showing the decadence of our society Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
