The first of the LPs on this CD was recorded in 1956 with Vic Damone fresh from his success in Kismet. This was Vic's first album for his new label, Columbia, for whom he had signed the previous year. They teamed him up with the orchestra of Tutti Camarata and recorded the ensemble in `hi-fidelity' mono sound. So if your ears are now tuned to crisp digital sound you may be disappointed. For me, the singing and arrangement are all, so while digital would have been better, I'm just happy to have this LP on CD to enjoy: my LP was showing the signs of its age, bought in America as soon as it was released. Twelve lovely tracks, beautifully sung and inventively accompanied. I doubt if there will be any tune here that you will not already know, but what singing - and what arranging. I'm not going to knock any stars off the rating for the mono sound.

The other LP transferred to CD here is Vic's Young and Lively in which the backing orchestra was directed by Johnny Williams. This album was also recorded in 1961 in stereo and the increase in depth of sound is very striking as soon as you move into it. Again we are treated to a dozen `standards' - all familiar tunes in original arrangements (from Johnny Williams we would expect no less) and splendidly sung by Damone. They are all so good, I wouldn't want to single out any specific track. The overall mood is one of young romance.
