Editorial Reviews
Limited vinyl LP pressing packaged in a black and white inner-sleeve and four-color jacket with spine. Includes artwork, lyrics and liners. 20th Anniversary edition including bonus track. At the time of its release That's Me in the Bar was called "... a thoughtful probing record about matters of the heart." -Boston Globe. Time has not diminished the positive impact of A.J. Croce's effect on his fans as well as his family legacy-great songwriting, with wit and a world-wise perspective, sung with the conviction of a seasoned pro. The album features musical assistance by Ry Cooder, Jim Keltner, David Hidalgo (Los Lobos), Robben Ford, Bill Payne (Little Feat), Waddy Wachtel, Sweet Pea Atkinson, Sid Page and Flea.

This is a nice laid-back recording that pretty much syncs with the cover photo and album title; a guy in a bar playing songs that fit his comfort zone. Plus, on this album A.J. is supported by an all-star cast on various songs; Ry Cooder playing a variety of instruments (slide guitar, bass, mandolin), Jim Keltner on drums, Bob Glaub on bass, Billy Payne from Little Feat on piano, Waddy Wachtel on guitar, Robben Ford on guitar, David Hidalgo from Los Lobos on accordian, and background vocals from the likes of Sweet Pea Atkinson (of Was Not Was fame). And yet despite all these name musicians it's A.J. Croce who also takes the spotlight, with his deft piano playing and distinctively gruff, bluesy vocals. Very enjoyable album.
