- Edited 9 months agoAwfully weak sound with very subdued arrangements.....stay away from this version ( I have a high quality system).
- Edited 3 years agoA true hidden gem. Boxstar didnt get many releases under their belt and are seldom mentioned. If more people knew about their relation to Impex I suspect these prices would not be so criminally low.
Regardless, the quality here is just as you would expect from Impex, top sourcing, mastering engineers, pressing and cover jacket.
Darins voice is always the focus of course and the instrumentals are particularly backseated and boxed in on Side A while Side B balances out better and opens up the soundscape to be less "Mono" if you know what I mean. It also bares mention that some of the first tracks will have a bit of inherent distortion. This all stemming from the recordings themselves or the source itself of course, so dont fret about your setup.
Thats about all I can nitpick about.
I mostly got this for some of the hits, as fellow Bioshock fans will understand, but found myself enjoying all the material and how the album flows.
If you want yourself some audiophile Darin cuts, then look no further.

Darin explosively enters the jazz-pop scene with this brash LP, generally considered his most important. It's pretty much the perfect example of Darin's strengths and weaknesses in this subgenre: top tier on the swing numbers, less impressive on the ballads (though "She Needs Me" is one of his better cracks at down-tempo stuff). Whatever quibbles you could have with his ballad singing notwithstanding, Darin is simply one of the most entertaining, energetic big band vocalists you're gonna hear. (And he ain't no slouch in rock and roll, either.) An excellent album, highlighted by two of his most important hits, "Mack The Knife" and "Beyond The Sea."referencing That's All (LP, Album, Mono) 33-104
Bobby Darin’s “That’s All” was his first big hit in the musical industry. The album was gilded with a Grammy Award for Best Album of the Year. Overall, “That’s All” revolutionized Big Band Jazz as a whole. Darin renewed a graying genre with youth and vigor never seen before. Songs like “Mack the Knife” and “Beyond the Sea” are unforgettable, and are bookmarks in American Jazz and musical history. “That’s All” is wonderfully composed, with songs ranging from jumping and lively tones, to slow, easy-listening pieces. This LP is only the introduction to Bobby Darin’s short, yet fruitful productive life, and is a must-have for any self proclaimed Jazz aficionado or die-hard Darin fan.
