I've read many books about Nikola Tesla and listened to Wizard: The Life and Times of Nikola Tesla.

The actor (Ethan Hawke) is too short for the role and has the wrong build. The scenes with backdrops cheapened the movie. The majestic fairs that Tesla toured, had shows, and showed off his skills were omitted. Tesla was great at performing and outspoken. Ethan performed him as an autistic man, which was not his demeanor. Tesla may have spent a little time around JP Morgan's children, but he spent more time flaunting his skills in front of politicians and famous celebrities (somewhat mentioned in the film, but not to the degree he was performing for). He spent time with Mark Twain and famously photographed him with his phosphorescent bulbs.

In short, this was a cheap movie with the wrong actor and the wrong story.

If you enjoy low budget, artsy, film house movies, or if you're a really big fan of Ethan Hawke, you *might* like this movie. If you're simply a fan of Nikola Tesla and you found yourself excited to watch a film detailing his life and informing more people of this semi-obscure genius in history...don't watch this, you'll be sadly disappointed.

Why? The film ends with Ethan Hawke as Nikola Tesla singing Tears for Fears "Everybody Wants to Rule the World." Karaoke. That pretty much sums up this dumpster fire of a film. I'm not sure of the parties involved with making this, but I hope that next time they decide to make a movie...they don't. If they absolutely must, they should probably avoid basing a story on someone like Tesla.

I hope that some day, someone makes a top notch movie about this guy...I'm not holding my breath though.

Excellent movie...don't let the 1-starrers deter you, if you are an actual adult and are interested in bio type movies particularly in Nikola Tesla this is an interesting and informative feature and well done...if you're not interested in that sort of thing why did you buy this movie in the first place? did you think it was about electric cars or something lol....maybe an action flik with electricity? it takes all kinds i guess...

You know the saying that truth is stranger than fiction? Well, in this movie they produce scene after dumb fictional scene and then the narrator character interjects to say something like "that never happened, but it's nice to imagine if it would have". No, it's not, the real history is infinitesimally more interesting and wonderfully strange than these dumb shallow made up sub plots that this disaster is made from. Men shoving ice cream cones at each other - that is the kind of scene they "enhance" reality with. And roller skates. Was this made by a 12 year old? I was unable to make it through an hour. This film needs to be electrocuted and put out of its misery like the dog in the film.

I'm probably one of the few people who would even rent this movie (I'm a fan of biographies, love technology history, and love the 80's group Tears for Fears). But only can give it 3 stars because since I am so odd, I know that most people wouldn't like this.

And yes, there is a scene where Nikola Telsa is karaokeing to a Tears for Fears song ("Everybody wants to rule the world")
