Scales became the first Indiana linebacker to earn All-America honors (2016) since 1987 and the first to collect first team All-Big Ten recognition (2017) since 1988. The Cincinnati native finished third on IU's charts with 46 career tackles for loss (152 yards), sixth with 18 career sacks (104 yards) and 10th with 325 stops. Scales wrapped up his career with 13 double-digit tackle games, four multi-sack games and 14 multi-TFL games. He appeared in 48 games (26 starts) and added 218 solo stops, eight interceptions (1 pick-6), two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, nine quarterback hurries and eight pass breakups.
 
2017 Honors: First team All-Big Ten (media) ... honored as Indiana’s Anthony Thompson Most Valuable Player ... team captain ... named to six watch lists (Chuck Bednarik Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Lott IMPACT Trophy, Butkus Award, B1G Player to Watch and Senior Bowl).
 
2017 (Senior): Indiana’s first first team All-Big Ten selection since 1988 ... paced the team with 12.5 tackles for loss (T-10th in the Big Ten), two interceptions and two fumble recoveries (T-4th) ... six sacks (T-14th) tied for the team lead, while his 89 stops (T-12th) and 56 solo tackles (8th) ranked second ... started all 12 games ... led the team in stops five times (3 game-high) ... posted double digits in tackles three times and eight-or-more six times ... recorded a sack in five games and a TFL in eight games ... tallied a career-high three sacks (T-5th in program history) with 11 stops, seven solo, at No. 4 Penn State ... made 12 tackles, seven solo, with one sack, 2.5 tackles for loss and one INT against No. 4 Wisconsin ... opened the season with a game-high 12 stops, nine solo, against No. 2 Ohio State ... added eight tackles, a half-sack and 1.5 TFLs in the win at Virginia and at Maryland ... picked off a pass and recovered his first career fumble in the fourth quarter for his first career two-takeaway game in the victory at Illinois ... recovered his second fumble to go along with one sack and six stops in his final game at Purdue ... two-time IU defensive player of the game (Ohio State and Penn State) ... 12-time game captain.

2016 (Junior): Became the first IU linebacker to earn All-America honors since 1987 ... led the country with 23.5 tackles for loss (69 yards), which ranks second on IU’s all-time list, and 93 solo tackles ... topped the Big Ten and finished 10th nationally with 126 stops, which shares ninth in program history ... tied for ninth in the conference and led the Hoosiers with seven sacks (44 yards) ... added a 16-yard pick-6, one forced fumble and two pass breakups ... paced the B1G and sat third in the country with nine double-digit tackle games ... strung together six straight, 10-plus stop contests, the longest streak in the nation, the longest streak in the Big Ten since 2012 and the longest at Indiana since at least 1990 ... posted two multi-sack and eight multi-TFL games ... led the team in tackles nine times (6 game-high) ... started all 13 games ... set career-highs with 13 stops in the win over No. 17 Michigan State (1 TFL), the Maryland victory (career-high 11 solos) and vs. Wake Forest (2 sacks, 3 TFLs) ... collected 12 tackles against No. 10 Nebraska (2 TFLs) and at No. 3 Michigan (1.5 TFLs) ... tallied four tackles for loss (T-5th in program history) in the Purdue win (10 tackles, 1 sack) and vs. No. 10 Penn State (9 tackles, 1 sack) ... corralled 10 stops, three for loss, with two sacks in the Foster Farms Bowl vs. No. 19 Utah ... dished out 10 tackles at No. 2 Ohio State (1 PBU) and at Northwestern (9 solos, 2.5 TFLs) ... forced his first career fumble and made 1.5 TFLs in the Ball State victory ... picked off the pass and recorded one PBU in the season-opening Florida International win ... three-time IU defensive player of the week (Florida International, Michigan State and Northwestern) ... five-time game captain.

2015 (Sophomore): Recorded 64 tackles, 40 solo, three sacks (13 yards), 5.5 tackles for loss (21 yards), two interceptions (37 yards) and four pass breakups ... tied for second on the team in INTs and fourth in tackles, sacks (tied) and PBUs (tied) ... played in 11 games with one start ... led the Hoosiers in stops three times ... recorded at least seven tackles six times, including each of the final four games ... collected his first career two-sack game and added a season-high nine stops in the win at Wake Forest ... secured one sack, two TFLs and seven tackles at No. 7 Michigan State ... made nine stops with one INT in the victory at Purdue ... posted seven solos, eight overall, with one tackle for loss against No. 15 Michigan ... closed the season with eight tackles in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl vs. Duke ... totaled seven stops, with a half-TFL and one PBU in the win at Maryland ... picked off his pass and returned it 32 yards against No. 1 Ohio State ... IU defensive player of the week (Wake Forest).
