What are the BEST, most Top-Tier shows ever? | ResetEra

I finished re-watching Severance for the third time and it occurred to me how rare it is that I become that immersed in a storyline and world setting. I've reached the point where it feels like very little actually wows me anymore... Yea, I know it's all subjective, but I feel like if the consensus is large enough, anything is worth trying? 🤷‍♂️

Personally, I'm a man of sci-fi, mystery and thrillers. Those are my go-to genres because I love the journey through the "unknown" and over the last year I've watched a few shows that have seriously impressed me. Andor, 3 Body Problem and especially Severance are at the top of my list. Silo is a close runner-up, but I felt it did drag a bit during the middle of that first season. Still glad I watched it though and hyped for S2.

So, my question is - What are the TOP TIER shows? None of that, "yea, it was pretty good. worth a watch" drivel. Give me that series that BLEW your mind.

Rapid fire thoughts on some other shows I recently saw over the last year...
dropped servant last night, 5 eps in. dropped warrior, 8 eps in. teacup 2 episode premiere, lord have mercy dropped. the bear, 4 eps in and couldn't take all the yelling. the penguin, pretty damn good but it really is all about mob drama isnt it =(. the terror, S1 was fine. just fine. the acolyte, 90% boring. fallout, annoying and not funny. ted lasso, lost interest in S2 (especially when Nate yelled at the towel boy). finally caught up with the last season of stranger things, man that series is overrated. foundation S1 was kinda boring. last air bender was serviceable enough. peacemaker was surprisingly awesome. x-men 97 was great. loki s2 was good. dropped ahsoka 4 eps in. chernobyl was pretty good. dropped dark at the beginning of s2. only seen one episode of shogun so far.

Legion. My wife showed it to me and said it was her favorite show ever. It became mine too. It's unbelievable how great it is.

The Leftovers.

It's truly one of a kind. Mrs. Davis is great too, but The Leftovers is peak Lindeloff. There is nothing like it out there.

Also Lost. It was peak network television.

Odd Taxi.

It's an absolutely masterful mystery/comedy/crime thriller and some of the best TV I've ever watched, period, not just "good for anime." There is not a single second or detail wasted.

Both The Wire and The Shield were those cop(?) dramas I never gave a shot back in the day. Ratings are crazy though.
i honestly, like, this is dumb i know and probably you shouldn't listen to me, but have watched The Wire multiple (multiple) times and it still just impressive in so many ways and i feel like every time i watch it i feel something new about it

yes i am that person

My cousin actually recommended that one to me a while back. I did finish it, and I'll admit that everything comes together neatly at the end. Glad I watched that one.

Denmark
The Wire and The Sopranos
And then everything else

Severance may get there one day. One season is not enough to be GOATed unless you're a limited series

Odd Taxi is great, one of my favorite openings as well. If this show floats OP's or anyone's boat, Erased, Monster, Promised Neverland(S1 only) and Beastars were all equally masterful shows to me.

I don't think there will ever be a greater television show for me than the Wire.

Fringe is perfect start to finish. The perfect amount of procedural drama episode to episode stories, along with an overarching narrative that they slowly introduce as you go.
Some amazing twists along the way, wonderful characters, and just a vibe that not many other shows have IMO.

Hannibal and Pushing Daisies

Veronica Mars

Simpsons (golden age only), Futurama (golden age only), Rick and Morty (yes, even if the fandom is toxic)

Party Down, You're the Worst, Review, 30 Rock, Arrested Development (s 1-3), Community

Westworld (s1 only for top tier; s 2 is watchable.)

The Americans (I've only watched s1 but I'm told the whole show was that good.)

Russian Doll (sorry, haven't watched s2 yet)

OK, that's a lot of shows, so if I had to pare it down to a top 1... Arrested Development is just on another level of craft. Other shows might do some things better but AD's execution and degree of difficulty combined are unmatched.

Don't feel ashamed 😅. My grandma watched The Wire several times too 😆. But seriously, she loves that show.

mad men
the sopranos
the leftovers
twin peaks and twin peaks the return
MST3K (classic)
LOVE mst3k. I used to watch the episodes on youtube during my downtime because it put me in a good mood. Their jokes were ahead of the time. I never finished it though. I think I stopped somewhere around season 4-5? I was desperately trying to catch up the the MST3k Movie. Friend was telling me it's hilarious.

There is a depressing lack of The Simpsons in the replies here so far. It may have like 30 bad seasons but at its peak it's the best TV ever.

It's worth finishing if you can but it's a lot to get through lol

Gonna go totally left field here but the UK kids show Knightmare from the late 80's and early 90's. Incredible concept and hugely influential on a whole generation of UK kids in terms of fantasy and adventure.

Erased is on the list. Friend recco'd it to me.
I know the manga started back up recently, I think? I prefer to watch anime, but then my real question is, when tf is the 2011 series getting a follow up.

Westworld is on my list. Sad that most people say don't watch pass season 1...

Do people need to be reminded the golden age seasons are good? Feels like common knowledge at this point lol. The new seasons have also been knocking it out of the park considering it's over three decades old at this point.
