CrossCountry provides direct trains from Edinburgh to Bristol. The weekday timetable begins in the early morning and operates a roughly hourly service throughout the day, until a final departure from Edinburgh in the late afternoon. Journey times are around 6 hours and 30 minutes, although some indirect services can be quicker. These journeys involve taking the CrossCountry or Virgin Trains service to Birmingham New Street and connecting to a CrossCountry train to Bristol. Sunday schedules feature fewer departures and no early morning trains.

Taking the Train from Edinburgh

Trains from Edinburgh to Bristol depart from Waverley station, located in the centre of the city. There are bus stops nearby on Princes Street and North Bridge, with routes to most parts of Edinburgh. The bus station is a 5-minute​ walk northwards on St. Andrews Square. Night buses are available from Waverley Bridge, by the station's western exits. The tram stop on Princes Street provides connections to the airport and western parts of the city. Taxis are available from the rank beside the station concourse.

Getting into Bristol by Train

Bristol is a lively, cosmopolitan city with a rich industrial and maritime heritage on show at the revitalised harbourside area. A star attraction is the ocean liner the SS Great Britain, built by Brunel, who also gave the city the spectacular Clifton Suspension Bridge. Trains from Edinburgh to Bristol arrive at Temple Meads station, located on the south-eastern side of the city centre. There are bus stops immediately outside the station offering routes to most parts of Bristol and a regular shuttle service to the airport. Ferries to central Bristol are available from the quayside behind the station. There is a taxi rank alongside the bus stops.
