In the 1930's an aging film producer and his much younger wife live separate lives. Whenever a young starlet catches the husband's eye, he eventually manipulates her onto his casting couch. Natica Jackson (Michelle Pfeiffer) is a Hollywood star who is far from innocent, but she finds herself falling in love with a married man who has several children.

ok this star is for michelle pfeiffer and the way she picks tobacco out of her mouth with her ring finger and her thumb. seeing pfeiffer dressed as a 30s movie stars is a vibe for me, but that’s all this film really gives me. we could’ve done with the whole film actually being about natica jackson instead of dedicating screen time to that completely unrelated subplot.
I had some crappy tape release of this movie that was super fuzzy and the highlights were all blown out. On first attempt, I only got a few minutes in before I had to give up because it was so hard to watch. I later came across a better tape. And while the image quality was better, the plot remained fuzzy, and the "highlights"... well, there some good cast members, but they're all wasted on the mediocre material. I feel like this must have been a made-for-TV movie, though I have not bothered to check. Nix that, I just checked and this movie was cut together from two episodes of a TV show called "Tales from the Hollywood Hills." I wondered by the subplot seemed totally unrelated, and never connected with the main plot. That pretty well explains it.
A movie should have a start, a middle, and a finish. I don't think that this picture achieved any of the three.
This TV movie adaptation of a John O'Hara story aired as an episode of "Great Performances", which would lead you to believe that it might actually be good. Michelle Pfeiffer stars as a Hollwood actress in the 30's who starts an affair with a married man. Although the valiantly try to make you believe it's the 1930's, there's something about shooting on video that renders the attempt unconvincing. Oddly enough, the DVD release of this intersperses it with a completely unrelated episode also set in Hollywood in the 30's starring Darren McGavin and Steven Bauer. Neither story is interesting enough to justify more than 30 minutes of your time. Interspersing them just serves to confuse the viewer.
