Leeds United could be in line for a ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ style documentary series after seeing Hollywood actor Will Ferrell the latest to join the 49ers investment structure.

Leeds being sat in the Championship after three years in the Premier League isn’t ideal for the commercial side of the club’s plans to grow in the coming years.

However, significant developments from the 49ers’ investment in the club have proven that Leeds are still a massive draw even finishing third in the Championship.

Will Ferrell confirmed as new Leeds United investor

An intriguing turn of events emerged on Saturday after Leeds’ defeat to Southampton, with The Sun revealing that Leeds had received fresh investment from another huge celebrity from across the pond.

This time, it’s the turn of Hollywood actor Will Ferrell to be named as part of the 49ers’ investment structure at Elland Road, the biggest name yet to be tied to Leeds.

The Athletic revealed that Ferrell comes in as another minority investor at the club, alongside sports stars Michael Phelps, Justin Thomas, Jordan Speith, Larry Nance Jr, Russell Westbrook – as well as Russell Crowe also from the world of film.

His role at the club is merely as an investor, meaning he won’t have much of a say in terms of how Paraag Marathe and co look to run the club going forward.

The Sun also reported in the aftermath of this news that Ferrell’s involvement at Leeds could see them follow the Hollywood investment route at Wrexham, with Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds in charge of the promoted League Two side, starring in their documentary Welcome to Wrexham:

“The comic (Ferrell) wore a hat from Los Angeles FC, his other co-owned team, as the pair watched the game against Wealdstone while Ferrell texted US-based Reynolds.

“His stardom could see streaming giants compete to air a new lucrative series on Leeds after Amazon followed the Championship side’s promotion in programme Take Us Home.”

Leeds pull in serious numbers across the world

If Wrexham are able to attract global interest for their story, you’d be sure that Leeds would be able to do the same, given our already established global appeal.

We’re a Championship club and not on the level of those in the big six, but our revenue year on year isn’t far off that sort of reach.

With Ferrell on board, you’re attracting more and more people to the brand of Leeds, and it shows how well the 49ers are doing.
