Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Doctor, doctor, I’m in bed, doctor, doctor, aching head
Doctor, doctor, gold is lead, doctor, doctor, choke on bread
Doctor, doctor, underfed, doctor, doctor, gold is lead
Doctor, doctor, Jesus bled, doctor, doctor, pain is red
Doctor, doctor, dark doom
Gruel ghoul, greasy spoon
Used spoon, June bloom
[Interlude]
[Verse 2]
Music seems to help the pain
Seems to motivate the brain
Doctor kindly tell your wife
That I’m alive, flowers thrive
Realise, realise, realise
Doctor, doctor, I’m in bed, doctor, doctor, aching head
Doctor, doctor, gold is lead, doctor, doctor, choke on bread
Doctor, doctor, underfed, doctor, doctor, gold is lead
Doctor, doctor, Jesus bled, doctor, doctor, pain is red
Doctor, doctor, dark doom
Gruel ghoul, greasy spoon
Used spoon, June bloom
[Interlude]
[Verse 2]
Music seems to help the pain
Seems to motivate the brain
Doctor kindly tell your wife
That I’m alive, flowers thrive
Realise, realise, realise
About
Genius Annotation
“Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk” is the sixth track on Pink Floyd’s debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.
This track features strange, attention-grabbing, morbid lyrics unlike anything else on the album. This alongside the introduction makes for one of Pink Floyd’s most insane tracks in their entire discography.
The title is a play on two different biblical proverbs:
Physician, heal thyself
and
Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
It was the first track written by Roger Waters, and the only track on the album not to be written by Syd Barrett.
