Taison Chatman

Chatman’s game is about substance over style. He doesn’t have a frame that is going to blow you away at first glance and he’s not going to win any highlight reel contests, but he’s cerebral, poised, and always productive. He has good backcourt size, can play on and off the ball, rarely gets sped up, and is a versatile scoring and playmaking threat. While it was a small sample size, what jumped out about his performances on the 3SSB circuit was his efficiency across a multitude of areas as he shot 63% on two-point field goals and 44% from behind the arc. He’s an excellent pull-up shooter, has good balance in the lane, some crafty lay-up making ability, and sneaky bounce given a chance to rise up. Chatman has an equally solid passing game. He makes all the basic reads coming off ball-screens and will throw it ahead in transition, but he is rarely doing anything too dynamic or flashy. He’s also a solid defender. He needs to learn to be more of a threat without the ball in his hands as he tends to stand and watch others play. Chatman can be non-verbal at times, especially at the point guard position, and plays with a similarly calm and reserved disposition which typically serves him well in big moments, but there are also times when he could assert himself more as a leader and overall personality.
