Texas Tech transfer returns home to Houston

HOUSTON – The Houston football program continued to build its 2020 roster on Wednesday with the transfer addition of running back Ta'Zhawn Henry.
 
The running back arrives to Houston after spending two seasons at Texas Tech. Henry will have two years of eligibility and a redshirt year remaining and is expected to sit out the 2020 season under NCAA transfer requirements.
 
Henry, a native of Houston, rushed for 681 yards and 11 touchdowns in his two seasons with the Red Raiders, while recording 44 career receptions for 283 yards and one touchdown.
 
As a sophomore, Henry led the Big 12 in kickoff return average (24.5) and ranked 25th in the FBS. He was the Red Raiders' leader in all-purpose yards per game in 2019, averaging 88.4 yard per contest. In 2019, Henry finished with 340 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground, while adding 22 catches for 138 yards.
 
Henry finished with 341 rushing yards and eight touchdowns as a freshman, leading Texas Tech in rushing attempts and touchdowns. His eight rushing touchdowns ranked ninth in the Big 12 in 2018. His best performance of the season came against the Cougars, rushing for a career-high 111 yards on 24 carries and four touchdowns, while adding a career-best seven receptions and 42 receiving yards.
 
Henry attended Lamar High School in Houston and rushed for over 3,300 yards and added 42 touchdowns in three seasons. As a junior, Henry recorded 1,374 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns to earn District 18-6A Offensive MVP.
