Summary:

The story of “Banana Fish” takes place in the 1980s and revolves around the life of Ash Lynx, a seventeen-year-old gang leader in New York City. Ash is known for his exceptional fighting skills and charisma, which have earned him a fearsome reputation. However, his life takes a drastic turn when he encounters a mysterious drug called “banana fish.”

The origins of banana fish trace back to a top-secret government experiment conducted during the Vietnam War. Ash’s older brother, Griffin, was one of the soldiers involved in the project. The drug is believed to cause intense paranoia and violence, ultimately driving its victims to insanity or death.

As the story progresses, Ash befriends a Japanese photographer’s assistant named Eiji Okumura. Eiji is kind-hearted and compassionate, providing a stark contrast to Ash’s world of violence and crime. The two form an unexpected bond, and Eiji becomes determined to protect Ash from the dangers that surround him.

Together, Ash and Eiji embark on a dangerous journey to uncover the truth behind banana fish. Their investigation leads them to various factions, including street gangs, mafia organizations, and corrupt politicians, all connected to the drug’s distribution. Along the way, they encounter both allies and adversaries, each with their own motives and agendas.

The narrative explores deep-rooted themes such as trauma, manipulation, power struggles, and the consequences of violence. Ash’s past trauma and his struggle for freedom become central aspects of the story. Meanwhile, the relationship between Ash and Eiji gradually develops into a profound and emotional connection, transcending mere friendship.

As Ash gets closer to uncovering the truth about banana fish, he faces numerous challenges and risks, testing his resilience and determination. The story reaches its climax as Ash confronts the orchestrator behind the drug and seeks to dismantle the corrupt forces that have shaped his life.

“Banana Fish” combines elements of crime, thriller, and drama, depicting a dark and gritty world while exploring themes of love, loyalty, and the search for justice in the face of overwhelming odds.

My Thoughts:

What do I even say about it without spoiling it. Its just amazing with all the curiosity that it captures the audience with and the characters relationships are so precious in their own unique way. The characters are also so complex and unique that I absolutely fell for them. Also, when you find out what Banana Fish actually is, no wonder lol.

I would give it a 10/10 but there was something I personally find pretty stupid in it that cannot talk about as its a major spoiler but yeah, that was kinda lame ;-;

Do I recommend it: Yes absolutely. A must watch but be careful because you are in for a ride
