The performance by Asia here and the sound quality are flawless. The band is very tight and spot on. Some earlier live CD's don't deserve repeated listens as the quality wasn't up to par. This one I'll be listening to for a long time. John Wetton is missed and there were times I teared up hearing his voice knock the songs out of the park. Geoff's keyboard renditions are faithful to the studio versions and seem to go steps further at times. My Own Time (a favorite from Alpha) sounded stunning. Carl Palmer is and always will be my favorite drummer. He hasn't lost a beat in over 4 decades from his Emerson, Lake and Palmer days. The man knows how to keep in shape and deliver. Then brand new guitarist Sam Coulson is a fine addition to the Asia family. He does justice to the classics without being a Steve Howe imitator. I hope he goes far in his musical career.
The DVD of the show is a great watch. John Wetton shows how really at home he was with the band. His enthusiasm and playing to the crowd augmented the vocals. The orchestra section although shorter than what I would have liked was very well done. Heroine was elevated from a song I liked on Phoenix to a beautiful masterpiece here. This fan since 1982 so moved by the sound of the acoustic guitar, John singing and the orchestra together. I'm sure a lot of the emotion is knowing John is no longer with us.
While I was entertained by the DVD, I was disappointed Carl was not shown during a lot of the orchestra section. During Wildest Dreams for instance, during his drum part we see Sam bobbing his head instead of Carl playing. Then we finally see him for a split section at the end of Heat of the Moment. Did someone forget to film him? Outside of this, the show was great and I hope this isn't the last live performance of John released. I'd love to see a show of the Gravitas tour. Rest in peace John. Ride easy my friend.

After leaving Crimson KIng, John Wetton started Asia. I didn't know Asia that well until I saw their Live in Tokyo DVD. This particular CD set is a good comparison to the Tokyo one. You get all the greatest hits and much better background recording than the Live in Tokyo.

This concert is fantastic. Asia shows a lot of strength and concentration among its musicians. In the last part the orquerta is incorporated and the music gains in dimension. Wetton continues to lead the group. Downes interprets the keyboards, in some subjects very to the front, of almost identical form to the discs of study. Palmer is very well pro loses some strength when he joins the orchestra. The guitar in some songs seems not to be. In synthesis, an even concert with good selection of themes. The image is very good in blu ray, but nothing impressive.

John Wetton has never sounded better. Sam Coulson does a capable job, but certainly no Steve Howe. Carl Palmer and Geoff Downes also shine in this recording. DVD filming was very good and sound is excellent. A must buy for Asia fans! Cannot imagine Asia continuing without John Wetton!

Fine if you are a fan of this guys. Well played but a little light for me. Wetton (RIP) sings great but there is something about this band that still doesn't grab me.
Maybe the fact that I find them to pop to be prog or to prog to be pop. (I love both styles but maybe not mixed).
Anyway, nice production (show wise) and the orchestra makes a great addition to the set.

Unless a live recording of the Gravitas tour is released, this is the final live recording with the late John Wetton. This line up does not include Steve Howe. The only reason why I did not give five stars here is because I felt that the set list was a little short for a 2-disc set. Only disc 2 contains the symphony background. It sounds good. The two highlights are "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes" and "Wildest Dreams." It's a good addition to your Asia collection.

Reviewed in France on May 13, 2017

Reviewed in Italy on May 2, 2017

5 Stars RIP John Wetton

I was hesitant upon seeing Steve Howe not on the line up, but still gave it a try because of the other 3; and am so glad the young guitarist replacing Steve is so good-and the other 3 continued to be top notch.
