The late Roger ‘Syd’ Barrett, from Cambridge, was a co-founder of the 1960’s music group Pink Floyd and performed on lead guitar and vocals. He also composed many of their songs. He was responsible for inspiring an entire generation of musicians to develop their own indigenous brand of English rock music.
Syd was quintessentially English, penning idiosyncratic songs unique in style and tone. He had a hugely attractive personality and with his good looks he was difficult to ignore. He was a quick-witted clown who kept family and friends laughing at his good-natured cheekiness throughout his younger years. Always interested in experimenting with music, he played the recorder, piano, ukulele, Jew’s harp and guitar all to a good standard.

When this happens, it's usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it or it's been deleted.Comment on Facebook
My favourite footage ever with Syd Barrett. Wish we had more and more and more.
Historic note : what you are seeing was filmed on the 14th May 1967 and 2 days earlier on the 12th of May the Floyd did the 'Games for May' gig where they played among other things 'See Emily play'. On the 18th of May they were recording 'Emily' in the studio and it was here that Syds childhood friend Dave Gilmour turned up and Syd didn't seem to recognise Dave. Something happened to Syd not long after this film was recorded. Dave thinks it was strobe lighting, others say Acid. We will never know. You are witnessing the Syd Barrett that Pete Townshend and others would go to and watch play live and admire. Please remember this Syd Barrett he was so unique and original and what ever happened was a great loss to the music world but above all his family and his adoring Sister. You can see what a lovely guy he was and why what happened had such an effect on those who knew him.
He’s a joy to just observe as a human, as well as a musician.
And yet today my children are introducing their children to The Floyd.
Breathtakingly patronising stuff from Hans Keller!
Damn, that host was ruthless!
Syd, siempre será el tipo más psicodelico del mundo 🌍🌍🌍🌍
"WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SO TERRIBLY LOUD?" — Hans Keller
Only clip i've ever seen of Hans Keller, but he always struck me as quite pompous! I wonder what he'd make of the youth of TODAY?
What a find!
Lo tengo..
Music has the capability to evolve to new heights, as does the brain - shame Hans Keller hasn't got the faculties needed to understand and appreciate what is now considered sublime psychedelic rock music.

In 1967 Pink Floyd got their record deal. In 1965 Syd Barett founded Bink Floyd. In April 1968 Syd was kicked out!!! The other three architects didn't want to study anymore and wanted to earn their money 💸💰 with music!!!! Syd Barett stood in the way... Roger Waters didn't pick him up!!!!! We're going on without Syd...... sad story...... Syd was no longer able to play the right scales... He had the wrong friends... He hung out too much with junkies... Drugs change your brain... In 1970 Syd tried again with 2 solo records... In 1972 with the group Stars...... He wanted to but Syd couldn't do it anymore..... Sad story...... Sad life..... He failed as a painter and musician..... Strange that the other three musicians and the Barrett family couldn't motivate Syd to go to therapy.....
Mad genius. Gave PF a kick start with his innovative song writing and guitar talent. Too much LSD, the lights went out, he had to leave PF. Sad. Only with the band a short 2 years. So much potential. Who knows what more he could've done. But he will always be remembered. He was one of a kind. 🎸
Fascinating quote. He tells us about himself if you are a patient and take it in.
I need to get a new turntable as my old one's broken. I've still got 'A Saucerful of Secrets' on vinyl and can't play it. Thank God for Spotify!
True of us all. I'm 64 years old and have yet to meet a single person who wasn't weird af.
Love the book “ a very irregular head “ 👍👍👍
One of Pink Floyd's influential members. He would have been with this legendary band today, still. He was a genius in the making. .....very sad indeed. Limitations should be set for all things in life. Except love and kindness. Can't overdose on either one ...
He Tattooed his Brain all the way! And we do miss you Syd.
In the artistic sphere irregular heads are often the more creative ones, shine on .
He was not made for this world. He understood things about art and the representation of art we are far away to grasp.
Quite simply a genius, when nobody else listened, he went with his own thoughts, but we must simply say thank you Syd Barrett, the legend
That spark may light a blaze that kills us all. His was close.
The best way to describe himself 😊
Unconditional.
Very special human
I think he was autistic like me❤️❤️❤️❤️
Crazy Diamond shine on!!
Nice quote.
Can relate 🙂
Poor crazy brilliant Syd.
Me too buddy
👏👏👏👏 Barret por siempre
Ruined his own head with the acid. Was basically lost for the rest of his life. But he did give us these early Floyd classics.
You were a drug addict bro!
Same quote.. and it's a good read..
