The Pointer Sisters

(CD - RCA #61135-2)

Review by Andy Kellman

Sweet & Soulful is a perfectly avoidable Pointer Sisters compilation, a budget title dating from 1987 -- the kind of thing you'd expect to see at the end of an aisle near the appliances or home garden section of your local all-in-one shopping establishment. Containing only eight songs and avoiding almost all of the Pointers' best-known singles from the late '70s and early '80s, it does include "Slow Hand," "Dare Me," and "Should I Do It?," but it's far too skimpy and spotty and horribly packaged to recommend to anyone but the most desperate. Other inclusions: "Flirtatious," "Hey You," "Burn Down the Night," "Sweet Lover Man," and "Back in My Arms." Making matters worse is the blatant attempt to make it look like a Pointers' studio album, not a compilation.
