Are there any horror stories that deal with diseases but with a “supernatural taste” ?

Recently I’ve rewatched the exorcist movie, and unfortunately the effects of time are starting to appear, not in visual effects but in a sense of what was considered scary and nasty, but one aspect surprised me a lot and I wish that it was used in other movies.

At first the movie tries to give Regan a scientifically explanation for her condition and that’s a scary concept that she maybe facing some unknown disease/mental condition that seems almost magical in nature, as someone who dealt with nosphobia/hypochondria for a good part of my life it does hit a bit close to home.

We a know “diseases are not scary than demons/ ghosts”, that’s why I wonder if there’s some other story that deal with the concept of diseases and conditions in a supernatural way, allegorical (which I know that there will be some good examples), or with just a hint of fantastical.
