Another small business bites the dust in the Haight and Cole Valley area of San Francisco.

Mi Familia, a family-owned taqueria at 1797 Haight St., will soon close its doors. The last day of business will be June 22, an employee told SFGATE on Wednesday morning.

The taqueria used to be called Zona Rosa, which dated back to at least 1990. Ramiro Cardenas and his family rebranded in 2019 and changed the name to Mi Familia. It should be noted that after rebranding, the restaurant received 17 health code violations.

The closure could be a possible trend in the lively, historical area of San Francisco.

In October 2022, locally loved Mexican restaurant Padrecito closed without much warning. The spot was known for boozy Mexican food brunches, but owner Nate Valentine felt that the economics didn’t make sense in the “new restaurant climate.”

Shortly after, a Blue Barn sign went up in the window at Padrecito signifying that the locally based chain serving salads and sandwiches would soon take over, though an opening date has not yet been announced.

For now, residents and tourists exploring Haight Street can still walk into Mi Familia for the next 23 days to satisfy their burrito craving.
