Neither of us are religious, though my husband was raised Catholic and went to Catholic school until grade 10, but this magnificence of this Cathedral left us both in awe. The windows, the pulpit, the altar, the sheer size of it, were incredible. The line was long but diminished as we ate our gelato. No shorts, no midriffs, nothing skimpy. No cell phones, no food, no drink, no noise. There are periodic announcements saying Mesdames et Messieurs….Sssshhhh! Wonderful.

Very cute area with historic buildings and restaurants. Lots of places to eat and shop. The covered bridge is in the area.

This park had it all -- real storks, boats, playgrounds, beautiful gardens, and a vintage car ride for kids. Strangely I didn't see any photos of the car ride on this site, so I'm adding one here. It's cheap and my son loved it -- he rode the car three times!

A covered bridge built with pink sandstone, it has 13 arches, the bridge is also a damn.
One of the popular historic sites in Strasbourg to visit.

It is a beautiful old town with old houses and frame houses. Especially interesting is the big Cathedral, the Place Kleber and Petit France. You can find several shops (not only souvenirs), restaurants and cafes.

Lots of fun stuff. The buildings are a bit of a maze. It is not always clear where to go next. The central courtyard is great. I enjoyed the special exhibit that focused on nationalism, grief and other things during WW I. Easy to find the museum walking.

A large and beautiful palace, located near the cathedral. It houses three museums: the Archaeological Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Decorative Arts. The most interesting is the last one, because here there are a lot of rooms/halls furnished and arranged as in the years when the palace was built.

Great collection! This place is definitely bigger on the inside than you would expect when you first pull up. I only wish more info would have been posted in English to get more out of it for international visitors.
Worth the stop when traveling near Strasbourg for sure!

This is a very nice museum which tells you a lot more in depth about the impressive cathedral of Strasbourg that any other place, but also about the history and art of the region. Here you can see a lot of sculptures in detail, as well as details and small histories captured in the mosaic. There are also hundreds and hundreds of impressive paintings and artifacts.

You will find your own favourite, we found several pieces of art especially memorable: a deeply phiolosophical but also deeply depressive painting of "dead lovers" from 1450 (so depressive that we did not even take a picture); and a group of sculptures picturing a temptress (devil) and foolish virgins (also depicted on the cathedral) as well as impressive wooden heads which look like coming right out of a movie.

All the more so, with the recently added 3D installations you can have a virtual trip of the top of the cathedral looking all the way down - with a really immersive experience which will guaranteed make you dizzy; and experience some other cool VR stuff. Everything is explained in detail in three languages. We enjoyed it.

Great visit but why no cafe? Apparently there are 4 cafes on site but none of them open on a Saturday. You can't even get a cup of coffee or tea. Other than that the visit was good. Just make sure you aren't hungry or thirsty when you go.

Through many tribulations the city has had a fascinating history. Throughout a few of these centuries the account here is well related.

As the 1200s came to a close it renounced ecclesiastical dominance and became a free city governed by Councils and other authorities.

Becoming French in 1681 under Louis XIV but less than two centuries later it was conquered by Germany. Further back and forth between these two neighbours until 1944 when it became, and remains, French.

So lots to cover. It was interesting to see a display of wooden piles that were used to support part of the city built on marshland. Including the majestic Cathedral.

Military exhibits include cannon balls from the city’s famous arsenal and crossbows. An aspect of the governing Authority was accurate weights and measures.

Gutenberg lived in Strasbourg during key developments in his printing press and printed books flourished in the city during the latter half of the 1400s with predominantly bibles and religious material published in about a dozen houses.

Terrible times during WWII are powerfully documented, including repression and persecutions.
