This is a film I have not seen before. I found the print quality a bit odd with jerky side movements on the opening titles and at times during the main body of the film. The sound is ok and the picture quality is for the most part ok but there is a fog scene that comes over very badly and looks badly washed out. The story is quite interesting as it uses the 1957 Cross Channel swimming event that was a Butlin's event (I believe). There is plenty of location filming around Dover, Cliftonville and Folkestone. The story does move a little slowly and it was easy to work out who the killer was. Good to see Sheldon Lawrence in a decent sized role and John Ireland too.

I like most old B movies from the 50s and 60s and never expect too much but enjoy the old fashioned mystery, drama and locations. Unfortunately this is one of the worst. Rather boring I'm afraid.
I confess to being disapointed with this Renown release. The transfer is OK 16.9 ratio and the sound is good. Picture is perfectly watchable if not absolutely mint. It's the script and direction and, dare I say it, the actors who let this down. For a good 30' or so I had no idea what kind of film this was (never having seen it before), Then there is the lack of suspense-We know who the murderer is. Joy Webster is awful (was her voice dubbed?) and John Ireland looks tired and a bit scruffy. Sheldon Lawrence, Maureen Connell and, surprisngly, Derek Bond, make the most of their roles. Some interesting locations, but even they could have been filmed better. Worth a view if you can get it cheap, but not one of Renown's best. Pity.
