Molly Haskell Film Comment Magazine It's the intent of this moving film to capture something that for obvious reasons is rarely attempted in memoir or movie, i.e., the experience of the deadly disease from the perspective of the sufferer rather than the caregivers. Feb 15, 2017 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) The subject matter may be tough, and the end-point inevitable, but the message we take away is defiant and ultimately uplifting. Rated: 4/5 Mar 8, 2015 Full Review Geoffrey Macnab Independent (UK) Writer-directors Glatzer and Westmoreland have written a rich, multi-layered screenplay that works equally well as family melodrama and as a meditation on language, identity and mortality. Rated: 3/5 Mar 6, 2015 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy One of the greatest performers of her generation, Julianne Moore deserved Oscars for Far from Heaven and Boogie Nights -- alas, she had to wait years before snagging a statue for her sensational turn here. Rated: 3/4 Feb 15, 2023 Full Review Michael J. Casey Michael J. Cinema The drama simple, insular, and personal...something much more horrific. Rated: 4/5 Oct 14, 2021 Full Review Nick Levine NME (New Musical Express) Julianne Moore gives a magnificent, Oscar-winning performance as a woman battling early-onset Alzheimer's disease. The H has beautiful deep hints, but very dull Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/27/24 Full Review Alec B There's no point to the film except to demonstrate that Alzheimer's is indeed a terrible illness. As to Moore's performance, yeah I suppose she deserved the Oscar, but I think this will always be remembered as a "lesser" role in a filmography that boasts some of the best acting of the last 30 years. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/13/23 Full Review Jonathan L La película fue marillosa historia excelente, pero el éxito de la protagonista dio lo mejor, pero la verdadera historia fue muy triste, de verdad lucho lo que pudo para no estar vencidos en la enfermedad Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/11/23 Full Review TheDreamhouse2010 C Julianne Moore embodies the character Dr. Alice Howland, an established, celebrated, intelligent author and professor of linguistics teaching at Columbia U. Watching her learn she had a rare genetic form of Alzheimer disease rapidly progressing is heartbreaking. This film did an amazing job walking us through the painful process of losing the neurological health required to possess and properly manage the memories that affirm and validate our identity, and so much of who we are or need to be on a second by second and day to day basis. The story is so relatable because this situation is one any one of us could find ourselves in. Tear jerker for sure. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/31/23 Full Review Wade W This is one of the scariest films I've ever seen and it's not even a horror. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/16/23 Full Review Ilya B The elegance and passion with which the story is delivered are top-notch. Unfair struggling between who you were and who you are, unwanted changes and overcoming the fear of forgetting first yesterday's dinner and last the distant memory of walking down the coast when you were a child then. The film upvotes not only the concern of Alzheimer's but the deep reflection upon long-forgotten memories that were a part of our lives. Julianne Moore delivered her best and was rightfully honoured.
