James Tavernier admits he's flattered by speculation linking him with a reunion with Steven Gerrard in Saudi Arabia.

But the skipper insists his full focus is on leading Rangers to one of the most famous seasons in the club's history. Tavernier and teammate Connor Goldson have both been heavily linked with money-spinning moves to Al Ettifaq, with Gerrard eyeing a double summer raid on his former club.

Tavernier was this afternoon nominated for PFA Scotland Player of the Year after another prolific campaign at Ibrox and is about to enter his Testimonial year almost a decade on from his bargain £250k switch from Wigan Athletic in 2015.

However, the goalscoring right-back made it clear he isn't thinking about leaving Glasgow anytime soon as he looks to drag Rangers to a Treble. The 32-year-old was also heartened to hear boss Philippe Clement stress his desire to keep the long-serving defender in Govan.

He told Sky Sports: "It's obviously unbelievable that you have the backing from the manager but I there's speculation going on for around a year now. It's football, there's always going to be speculation. To have the backing from the manager is obviously really important. But I'm a Rangers player so I'm just going to continue working hard for the team."

He added: "You've always got to try and push yourself and it's always nice to have that speculation but again, it is only speculation. I'm contracted to Rangers and I'm fully committed to the job in hand."
