Premier League striker in new transfer link, he'd love Rangers move amid Bosman deal reports

Rangers will look to add more firepower in the summer with Philippe Clement set for a busy transfer window.

The manager has his work cut out between overhauling the squad and keeping to a tight budget but utilising the free agent market could be one way of stretching it.

If the Rangers boss wants to sign a player who has been linked with a move to Ibrox, he might have to move quickly.

Rangers face competition if they want Oli McBurnie

Writing on his Patreon site, The Sun journalist Alan Nixon has reported that there has been interest in Oli McBurnie.

The well known Bluenose is out of contract at relegated Premier League outfit Sheffield United and it may be his last chance to get his dream Ibrox move:

“Growing up, I was always a big Rangers fan and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. It’s just about timing.”

“Listen, it’s a special club. Have you ever been to the Old Firm? I’ve been to plenty of Old Firms and I’ve never experienced a game like it, either playing or watching. Most people who have ever been to them will say the same.

“I hope one day, by the end of my career, I play for Rangers. I hope I get to experience that side of it. “If I don’t, I don’t. But I hope by the end of my career I can say I’ve played in an Old Firm at one point.”

According to Nixon, McBurnie might not get to see that dream become a reality.

Antalyspor are the club said to be looking to offer the Scotland international a contract as the xx-year old recovers from a groin injury.

McBurnie debate has been around for years

McBurnie is always a striker that has polarised opinion.

Other than this season, his £20m move to the Blades has been largely unsuccessful despite promotion to the Premier League.

Strikers are always judged on goals and he simply hasn’t scored enough.

He does have spells that prove he can score goals, however, Rangers need an upgrade, not a gamble.

When Steven Gerrard was first said to be keen and met a hungover McBurnie to discuss a possible move, he was on form and with the potential to improve.

Since then, he’s had too many periods where he hasn’t and too many periods on the sidelines with injury.

The last thing Rangers need is another striker who can’t stay fit or can’t be relied upon to score goals consistently.

There’s no doubt that Rangers would get a player who would run himself into the ground in Oli McBurnie but if Philippe Clement is to improve his squad, he needs better.
