The Wire

Steve Shill, born in Windsor, England, is a motion picture director and producer.

He is an episodic director for The Wire, contributing four episodes to the show. He joined the crew as a director for the first season in 2002, helming the episode "The Hunt". He returned for the second season in 2003, directing the episodes "Undertow" and "All Prologue". For the third season he helmed the episode "All Due Respect" in 2004, his final work on the show.

He began his directing career in British television during the 1990s. He directed episodes of the soap operas Emmerdale and Eastenders and the police drama The Bill. He moved to America and directed episodes of the short-lived Sidney Lumet drama series 100 Centre Street and Dick Wolf created prime-time mainstay Law & Order.

He was a regular director for HBO drama series during the 2000s, contributing episodes to Deadwood, The Sopranos, Rome, Carnivale and Big Love. He also worked on the cable miniseries The Kill Point and found work on the premium network dramas ER and The West Wing from showrunner John Wells. He would reunited with Wells on the later series Shameless in 2013.

He had a longstanding role as a director on the Showtime drama series Dexter, contributing episodes from 2006 to 2013. He also worked with Showtime on the historical drama series The Tudors.

He has frequently worked in network television on further Dick Wolf created series including Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D..
