Stan Lee is a man who needs no introduction. Nevertheless: Having begun his career with wartime Timely Comics and staying the course throughout the Atlas era, Stan the Man made comic-book history with Fantastic Four #1, harbinger of a bold new perspective in story writing that endures to this day. With some of the industry’s greatest artists, he introduced hero after hero in Incredible Hulk, Amazing Spider-Man, X-Men and more — forming a shared universe for rival publishers to measure themselves against. After an almost literal lifetime of writing and editing, Lee entered new entertainment fields and earned Marvel one opportunity after another. He remains one of Marvel’s best-known public representatives.

First off, I had previously purchased the Captain America Omnibus, Vol. 1 HC so I can finally read those great early Ed Brubaker stories. While I still haven't removed the shrink-wrap on that book, this Spider-Man book was opened immediately. It does not have said shrink-wrap, probably because there wasn't enough to put around it. This is the largest bound book that I have ever seen in my life!

The binding is solid and the colors on the pages jump out at you. There is a nice Table of Contents that lists all of the issues contained within this book. This is followed by a great introduction by Stan Lee himself, who gives you some background on how the Spider-Man series came about, perfect for leading into the stories themselves. As you probably know, it started out in Amazing Fantasy #15 which is the first issue in this collection. I have never actually read it so it was a real treat to finally get the chance. That alone is almost worth the purchase price.

The one thing about having a book this big is that you do not have to look anywhere else for the early Spider-Man stories, they are all here. I can't wait to keep reading the rest and as you will notice from the start, Spider-Man is very wordy, there are many caption boxes on each page. The artwork is superb as Spider-Man himself is such a striking character and really stands out in each and every scene that he is in.

Even if you are not a Marvel fan, you will find all of these Spider-Man stories as priceless as I do. This is a collection that is second to none. All the early Spider-Man stories are here. Recommended for all comic book fans and for Marvel and Spider-Man fans this is a MUST OWN!

One more thing: If your jaw does not drop when you see the size of this book I will be surprised, it is awesome!

This is the first omnibus I bought, and it was so good that I have started collecting omnibi. This is the hobby which I very much enjoy. This is the perfect start of Spidey fan, a masterpiece which is a privilege to own. Ditko at it's best, and stories are still relevant, even they are almost 60 years old.
A must have for a Spidey fan.

For all the hardcore Spider-Man fans you got to get this. Book is very good and constructed. No gutter loss here. Good binding. This book has all the Amazing fantasy's stories of Spider-Man up to when Spider-Man gets his own comic plus the cool tie ins and Annuals with Fantastic 4 etc. Whatever spider-man was in this Omnibus has it. Pick it up especially for the price its super worth it. Let me warn you though the comics are far less sophisticated than they are today so you will have to adjust to the writing but after a couple of issues it gets better. Already on page 300 and so many Iconic Villains 1st appearances I have read about. Another cool thing is that after ever comic issue there is a page strip dedicated to the fans from the early days writing in with questions and the writers of marvel reply back. Really cool touch they added that in.

Caution: handling this book while reading it will make your biceps big... And with great power comes great responsability!
This book, as you probably already know, packs the origin and the first four years of Spider-Man's adventures. All of Spidey's arch-villains (excepted Venom and Carnage) feature : Doc Octopus, Green Goblin, you name them. All of Spidey's world was set during these first chapters: his bullies (and future friends), his girlfriends (including the then-mysterious MJ), Aunt May etc.
When these adventures were first published, almost 50 years ago, they were genuinely pioneering, revolutionary, seminal even. The super hero comics as we know them today would not exist without this masterpiece by Stan LEE and Steve DITKO. I do not know how the teenagers of today will connect with it, but for this reader -- who read the issues herein compiled at the tender age of ten, when they were first published in France (that means the early 70s to you) --, it ages rather well. I believe all serious comics fans in the world should own these adventures and this "omnibus" is probably the best way to do so.

Wow! I love spiderman and getting to read the original stuff is pretty amazing. If you are a true marvel / spiderman fan this is a must read. If your not maybe it may not be for you because it’s very heavy on words then normal comics.

There have been some great Spider-Man stories over the years, but these are the stories that started it all, and in many ways the best Spidey stories ever. Lee and Ditko were both at the top of their game and this beautifully packaged collection showcases those early issues of Amazing Spider-Man. Of course they were making it up as they went along--that's part of the fun...and yes superhero comics can be action-packed, melodramatic and fun all at the same time...and these Spider-Man stories certainly are.

it's a shame they'll probably never release a second omnibus edition, as John Romita Sr. did some great work as well...but I'm quite happy we got this!

Everything is reprinted and restored to what it should've been and it has a great story telling on Peter Parker's journey in becoming a hero of New York City. If you are a fan of Spider Man then please do pick this up and don't miss out on this excitement.

The other issues are in other omnibus volumes.

I started reading comics back in the mid 70s. I managed to build up quite a collection. Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances forced me to lose everything. Thanks to these omnibus editions I can now re live all those good times. Some of the prices are a bit ridiculous, but when you consider how much some of the Originals are worth now, it's a small price to pay. My only gripe is that the writing on the spine is now a different size and therefore not consistent with the other volumes. Apart from that... it's The Amazing Spider-Man. Enjoy
