See it: Giants' Sterling Shepard looks good in ACL recovery

New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard continues to recover from a torn ACL suffered in Week 3 of last season and appears to be ahead of schedule.

Shepard is already running full speed and making cuts, which is a good sign seven months post-surgery.

On Thursday, during the third practice of organized team activities (OTAs), Shepard even took the field for some walkthrough reps and caught a few passes from quarterback Tommy DeVito in 7-on-7s.

With the regular season still four months away, it’s entirely possible Shepard works his way back for Week 1. Earlier speculation was that he might start the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list and while that’s still possible, there are reasons to be optimistic.

Whether Shepard starts on PUP or not, the Giants fully intend to keep him around. Head coach Brian Daboll made sure he remained near the team last season post-injury and co-owner John Mara is already reportedly preparing a role for him once he retires.

Shepard is beloved by his coaches, teammates and the fans, so one way or another, he’ll be with the Giants in 2023.
