Message from the Principal
Dear Steinmetz College Prep High School Community,
I am excited to serve as the new Principal of Steinmetz College Prep High School and honored to join a
school community known for their dedication and commitment to students and families. I am a firm
believer that strong family partnerships are critical to the success of students. Being a mom of a child in
CPS and an aunt of students in CPS, I understand the importance of school-home relationships and
approaching families and students as equal and reciprocal partners in learning. I am also a proud aunt
of two CPS graduates with full scholarships thanks to their post-secondary success. I have an 8-year-old
daughter in CPS, and I value and respect the relationships I have with her teachers, the school leadership
team, and the students, both as an educator and mom.
I am a Chicago Native, animal lover, supporter of Chicago teams, oldest of three sisters, and a proud
product of CPS. Over the past 18 years, I have supported CPS students and families in various capacities. I
previously served as an assistant principal for both elementary and high school. Prior to becoming an
assistant principal, I worked as an instructional support leader for Network 4 where I provided supports to
elementary and high schools. I served as a middle school math and language arts teacher at Locke
Elementary. I wanted to serve as a role model to my students and family by demonstrating my
commitment to them and learning by earning my superintendent certificate, Ph.D., and M.A. in School
Leadership. I am a proud first-generation Latina graduate of immigrant parents who instilled in me the
importance of education.
I am grateful for this opportunity to work alongside all of you in supporting the vision and mission of
Steinmetz. I am excited to be part of a school that believes that in order to reach our vision it must be
shared by all those who are working to make it happen. Being a mom and aunt of CPS students, I
understand the importance of supporting partnerships with students, staff, family, and community that
are based on mutual respect, trust, and focused on strengths.
My aim this summer and school year is to get to know many of you and your families, share ideas about
programs, activities, information, and resources that benefit our school. Once again, I am so thankful to
have the opportunity to serve as your principal and look forward to working together in making a
difference. Please feel free to reach out to me at avilchez@cps.edu. I am to respond within 48 hours.
Go Steinmetz Streaks!
Sincerely, Anna Vilchez, Ph.D. |
