Tottenham have 'strong interest in De Vrij' pre-January - Sources

Sources: Door opens for Tottenham to sign Stefan de Vrij in January as price tag tumbles

Tottenham retain a strong interest in long-term Antonio Conte favourite Stefan de Vrij ahead of the January window, Football Insider understands.

The centre-back, who turns 31 in February, is out of contract in 2023 and his club Inter Milan are strapped for cash.

De Vrij has yet to agree a new Inter deal and his future is up in the air going into the winter window.

Previously valued at around £40million last year, the Holland international’s price tag has now tumbled to around the £10m mark.

That has opened the door to De Vrij’s Premier League suitors, who include Tottenham.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte has long been a huge admirer of De Vrij and was keen to lure him to Spurs in January of this year after managing him during his successful Inter reign.

But the Italian giants would not sell mid-season and Tottenham went on to sign Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona during the summer.

De Vrij fits the bill for Conte’s side as he has often been utilised on the left side of a three-man Inter defence.

The former Feyenoord man started the season in the Inter side and was in the XI for the first six Serie A matches, before being dropped to the bench for the last three.

De Vrij played the full 90 minutes of the midweek 3-3 Champions League clash against Barcelona.

The defender was instrumental to the side which won Serie A under Conte’s stewardship in the 2020-21 season.
