What travellers are saying
- aplasencia40125 contributionsGreat place to take the kids for an afternoon. Most of the animals are indoors. Snow leopards are a must see.Written 3 February 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- therichastillStevenage, UK2,768 contributionsThe 911 Memorial on Staten Island is very beautiful.
From the ferry terminal walk along the front and you can see the memorial quite clearly. It is very tasteful. Two simple white stone pieces with the names of the people from Staten Island who died in the 911 attack. What I found was really beautiful was that there are the profiles of the people on the memorial as well which is a really lovely tribute.
From the memorial you can see Manhattan and the financial district which has now been rebuilt.
It is a good place to visit to remember the victims.Written 1 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It sits at the bottom of the Verrazano Bridge.
They give you a map that you can follow a path to see all the important sites of the FORT. A little disappointed that you couldn’t go into the FORT itself however you can see it from the outside and from on top of the hill.Written 14 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The chilly May day we visited had 5 of the many old buildings open along with the historic museum. The interpreters were all well informed and enthusiastic about informing the public. Good half day diversion.Written 4 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Irina Akc5 contributionsWinter time this place is not so interesting (expect Chinese winter Lantern Festival, it is great for children at dark time)Written 27 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tania G2 contributionsThe Staten Island Children's Museum is "hands down" the best children's museum in New York City. All of the exhibits are interactive educational and FUN. Everyone writing a review should put 5 stars because it is just that good. They have a construction site with a boom crane on the 3rd floor, and tools and a slide when kids enter an indoor house. On the same level they have an insect exhibit and molds where kids can enter and pretend to be insects for a photo op as well as a pet shop with different animals. (I believe this same side use to have white coats for the children to pretend play vets. I love the rainforest and polar exhibits, but I really thought the air currents, game room and fire station were amazing xs amazing. Absolutely worth the trip!!!Written 21 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- L TranNew York City, NY168 contributionsThe garden, part of the Snug Harbor Cultural Center, is not a amusement park type knockoff. It is a work of art inspired by beautiful Ming Dynasty gardens of Suzhou. The place was built by Suzhou artisans with materials brought over from Suzhou, China. Though it is somewhat in the stage of disrepair, I find the place charming. It was explained that all repairs, which is happening, need to be done by proper craftsmen from China. Quite a nice place to visit.Written 7 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ME2AKJuneau, AK58 contributionsMy 3rd Great Grandfather (1812-1882) lived at the Snug Harbor Sailors Home the last couple of years of his life. While visiting friends in Long Island, they drove us to the museum, so I could visit and learn more about it. The museum is housed in one of the old dormitory buildings.
The campus is now a cultural center and botanical garden. Great place to visit, especially if you have an interest in maritime history and art.
The entrance was tricky to find around back of Building D. Follow signs and use buzzer to enter.Written 3 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The biggest disappointment was that the Seastreak Ferry boat had filthy windows that you could barely see out of. We popped outside a few times to see, but unfortunately, the weather was too windy to stay there.Written 17 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mrmfield21Milton Keynes, UK229 contributionsI had spent a day walking around Staten Island and was tired. I remember reading an online article about independent breweries in New York City. One of which i recalled being on Staten Island, not far from the ferry terminal. I made haste there.
When i arrived there was a band playing and a reasonable crowd of people milling about drinking and generally enjoying themselves. I reached the bar and asked the friendly man what he would recommend. He asked me what i normally drink and he recommended a pale ale. I had sip and thought he made the right choice. I paid for my pint and headed outside to sit and enjoy it.
it was a good pint, crisp, fresh and ice-cold. It was so good i had two more. Each time i went to get refills, the staff were friendly and courteous. It was highly enjoyable to sit with a cold beer and sit on a conformable seat enjoying the warm August evening.Written 27 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - coachee1313Montvale, NJ1,142 contributionsA great ballpark with amazing views and you can find a spot to park on the street. The area is spotless and clean which amazes me by a public facility. Sparse crowds since an independent pro baseball team is there now. Still cool.Written 20 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
