The latest Sony State of Play took place today, featuring a smattering of updates on already-announced games plus new reveals. As expected, Deathloop anchored the show, but there were several other announcements as well, chief among them the Death Stranding: Director's Cut release date reveal. We also learned about Moss: Book 2, a follow-up to the popular PlayStation VR title featuring a tiny mouse on an adventure.
Alas, the follow-up to 2018's God of War was not present, nor was Horizon: Forbidden West. Expect more info on those anticipated releases at a later date. In the meantime, here are all the upcoming PS4 and PS5 releases shown at today's event.
Moss: Book 2 announced
To start the event, Polyarc announced Moss: Book 2. The sequel will once again debut on PlayStation VR, and will feature the puzzles, platforming, and combat we loved so much. The trailer gave us a glimpse at some of the new trailers, a large cathedral, and lots more. A release date has not been announced yet, but we did get a chance to talk to Polyarc design director Josh Stiksma about the sequel.
Arcadegeddon announced, Early Access starts today
Arcadegeddon was revealed during today's event. An action game, it has a distinct whiff of Fortnite about it. It's a multiplayer shooter that can be played solo or in four-player co-op. Early access starts today, with a full launch in 2022.
New Tribes of Midgard post-launch content revealed
New post-launch details were revealed for Tribes of Midgard. It will launch with the Wolf Saga season and will introduce a new rune system. There will also be special Saga Quests and season-exclusive items. It is set to release on PS4 and PS5 on July 27.
Hunter's Arena: Legends coming to PS4 and PS5
Mantisco announced during today's stream that Hunter's Arena: Legends, a game that combines, "RPG, MOBA, and many other [genres]" will be coming to PS4 and PS5. It will feature both PvE and PvP as well as two battle royale modes. It's out this month.
FIST: Forged in Shadow Torch will be out September 7
FIST: Forged in Shadow Torch, a 2D Metroidvania starring a rabbit on the run from vicious machines, got a brand new release date. It will be out on PlayStation 4, Playstation 5, and PC on September 7. First revealed back in 2020 for the PlayStation 4, it was subsequently confirmed for PS5 and then delayed. It will feature arcade-style combat and a variety of secrets and upgrades to find.
SIFU delayed to early 2022
SIFU, a stylish kung-fu game previously revealed earlier this year, has been delayed to early 2022. We did get a brand new trailer though, which showed how you age as you are defeated. As previously revealed, it will set at the "crossroads of two established and popular genres" in mixing the beat 'em up with the 3D action game. It is slated for release on PS4, PS5, and PC.
We got a closer look at JETT: The Far Shore
Sony offered a new glimpse at JETT: The Far Shore, which is being developed by small independent developer Superbrothers. The new game resembles No Man's Sky in some ways, featuring sci-fi exploration both on-foot and via spaceship. Its focus will primarily be on exploration. It's set to release this year on PlayStation 4 and Playstation 5.
Sega shows extended Demon Slayer gameplay
We got an extended look at Demon Slayer during today's State of Play. Due October 15 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, it is a video game adaptation of the very popular anime. We previously confirmed that it would be releasing in North America as part of IGN's Summer of Gaming.
Lost Judgment will include a free next-gen upgrade for both PS5 and Xbox
Sega announced during today's event that Lost Judgment, the sequel to its Yakuza spin-off featuring a private detective, will include a free upgrade for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners. Sega also showed three different versions, with the Digital Ultimate Version including a story expansion set in Kamurocho and Ijincho. You can find more info right here.
Death Stranding: Director's Cut release date revealed
Death Stranding: Director's Cut release date was revealed along with a host of new content. It includes new battles and advanced combat mechanics as well as items such as a firing range, cargo catapult, new story missions, and a racing mode. It will be out September 24 and pre-orders are available now.
Deathloop gets a new trailer
Finally, Sony provided an extended look at Deathloop in a new trailer. Arkane's new shooter, set in an alternate 1960s with a distinct mod look, was fully revealed earlier this year. In our preview, we called a "supernatural Hitman," which sounds quite intriguing. While Arkane Studios parent company Bethesda is now owned by Microsoft, Deathloop remains a PlayStation exclusive on console. It's set to release on PlayStation 5 and PC on September 14.
