I was never a sci-fi person but in recent years began to appreciate the concepts explored in Star Trek and Star Wars. Although I was becoming more interested, the multitude of movies and tv shows done by these two franchises over the decades proved to be so overwhelming that I felt it wasn't worth my time to catch up. For people like me, this little film is a great way to finally understand the different movies and threads so I don't feel lost and can choose which ones appeal to me for viewing. The film has a very old-school look and narration but the cheesiness of it was actually appealing!

As a follower of both franchises I'm well versed in the history, impact, and fanbase each has had. This film gives so much backstory, it has little to do with the ideological differences between the differing fan bases. Other than a few bloopers, there's very little actual footage from episodes. They weirdly put "Star Trek: The Next Generation"s theme song over the original Star Trek pilot and stole explosions from who knows what Star Wars knock off... I feel they didn't have the rights to show actual TV or Film/music clips, so made up their own conglomeration to avoid lawsuits. If you don't have the rights to make the film you want, don't make the film. It does not accurately portray either franchise, yet gets incredibly bogged down with their histories, which due to liscensing issues, they didn't get remotely right. If a documentary intends on flaming a feud of superfans, they should be more insightful than a wikipedia description of the opposing franchises. I'm not sorry to say, I didn't make it very far into this, but long enough to know the producers either had no clue of the subject matter, or was treating the viewer as more alien to popular entertainment than the creatures on screen..

WHERE'S THE RIVALRY AT??!!
I saw this had only two stars so I began to wonder should I watch it? Where's the rivalry at? I've been watching for 33 minutes and there's NO RIVALRY!! All it does is compare Star Trek to Star Wars. Versus??? PAH!
And what was up with the fact that there was NO footage of ANY Star Wars films??! At first I thought it was Lucas just being petty. But then I after watching it: no wonder!! He saw this and was like: "Make licensing fees prohibitedly too expensive."
The description said that they will be rivalries between fans and actors and directors! NOPE! I was expecting fans talking about Star Wars being better than Star Trek and vice versa.
We didn't get any heated debates between fans! We didn't see the arguments that *I* get into with Star Trek fans! We didn't see any clear distinction between why this universe is better than that one!
Like how Star Wars is more organic and chaotic, and pure fantasy; or how Star Trek is too clean and proper, trying to be realistic. Also how Star Wars makes better use of aliens and non human characters; whereas Star Trek is all about the humans and humanoids.
So where the hecky-hookey was this "rivalry" they spoke of? This was a sham!! I'll give this TWO STARS for effort and background research. But ONE STAR FOR PRESENTATION & LOUSEY EXECUTION!! BOOO!!
I'm not surprised that Lucas didn't allow any footage of Star Wars and priced the license fees out of the producers budget!
33 minutes into it and they start taking about Spaceballs. Who cares about Spaceballs!?

Whether there is genuinely a rivalry between fans of Star Trek and Star Wars productions or whether they're actually mostly the same people, as I suspect, you won't get much of a sense of it from watching Star Wars vs. Star Trek: The Rivalry Continues.
I'm a fan of Star Trek and will watch anything Paramount offers that is even vaguely related to the Enterprise, Starfleet or Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future universe. I've never seen a Star Wars movie, although I admit to trying to watch one once. For me, there is no rivalry. Star Trek wins hands down. Still, I thought an examination of the perceived rivalry would be entertaining.
While the 50-minute documentary includes some interesting interview snippets and a couple of Star Trek bloopers, there is very little real content. A few fans of the two franchises are interviewed, but producers managed to gather no truly insightful or entertaining comments. The production's key question, "Is there a rivalry between Star Trek and Star Wars fans?", goes mostly unanswered.
The documentary's biggest problems are technical, however. Once viewers get past the stuffy announcer, very poor quality video makes the production look even worse than it really it. The images of Star Trek's original series are blurry bootlegs, while almost all other images are from trailers and press photos. Sloppy editors even show a nice head shot of DeForest Kelley to introduce an interview soundbyte from Star Trek guest actor Michael Forest.
On my DVD player, the documentary starts playing immediately upon inserting the disc. I only learned about the menu and special features later. Short additional interview material is unintentionally humorous, from a confused Carrie Fisher being interviewed in English and Spanish at the same time to an ultimately useless interview (from the late 1970s but strangely in black and white) with an arrogant William Shatner that fades away mid-sentence. Amateur footage from the opening of the Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton and some Star Wars fan footage that I didn't bother to watch are also included.
True devotees of either franchise need to see this DVD so they can write humorous and biting blog and message board posts about it. Otherwise, boldly go elsewhere.

Those that know both shows, will vomit. Those that do not know the shows, will be fed FAKE NEWS. I feel guilty giving it one star! But I suppose they got the spelling right for both shows so 1 star it is, it was the only factually correct information on each franchise.
