      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Anchored by the incomparable Patrick Stewart, Picard departs from standard Starfleet protocol with a slower, serialized story, but like all great Star Trek it tackles timely themes with grace and makes for an exciting push further into the final frontier.

Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald It helps that Star Trek: Picard seems leaner and less episodic than previous series, playing like a straight mystery action-thriller with fewer flourishes of philosophy and wardrobe. Mar 4, 2020 Full Review Michael Idato Sydney Morning Herald Star Trek: Picard is Star Trek, so there's a rulebook on the table; but it's wonderfully unpredictable, turning what historically risked looking like a packaged theme park ride into a properly thrilling narrative rollercoaster. Feb 7, 2020 Full Review Camilla Long Times (UK) Overall, it felt eerily successful, a bit like when McDonald's started selling salads and decent coffee. Jan 27, 2020 Full Review Bill Brioux Brioux.tv In today’s crowded TV universe, however, it takes more than saying “engage!” to engage, and keep, an audience. Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 18, 2022 Full Review Mark Meszoros The News-Herald (Willoughby, OH) Picard ultimately is all about Stewart being back in that titular role. He's done stronger work over the years as Picard, but this aging, more-vulnerable version of the figure is, like the show itself, compelling. Feb 28, 2021 Full Review Tony Black Cultural Conversation Star Trek: Picard is founded on the approach that Trek is designed to reflect the world in which we live, as opposed to the world we expect the 24th century to be. Suzanne N I really liked this season one and it's focus away from Starfleet. I enjoyed exploring the wider galaxy away from the bridge of a Starfleet vessel. The opening episode Remembrance is one of the finest openings to any tv show. I also enjoyed Stardust City Rag and Nephante. What brings the rating down is the pacing with an inexperienced showrunner. When you get to the last two episodes, it feels as they were making it up as they went along. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review Audience Member I was hesitate going in, but this is the best startrek show period! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/23/24 Full Review Travis C It was good, could be faster paced but overall and interesting start. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/07/24 Full Review paytonthompson20 A fine addition to boldly go. An amazing cast, well thought out story lines and some surprise guests make for a fun show that at the end of each episode you want to know. What happens next? Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review Mihaly C For me personally this was a good season of Star Trek. It was a refreshing change to all the ship (and space-station) based story telling of the past. Well at least the first 3 episodes and the last two :) Anyhow, some great character moments, some odd choices but not that terrible. I would enjoy Star Trek shows structured like this. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/04/24 Full Review James B Evocation of some of the original themes of the Next Generation aren't enough to salvage this plodding first season from the tedium that some people might associate with erectile dysfunction. They're lip service at best. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/05/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
