The series follows the crew of the USS Discovery as they encounter new worlds and civilizations, delving into familiar themes and expanding upon an incident that has been talked about within the franchise's universe, but never fully explored. Audience Member Pretty good. Middle of the road when it comes to all the Star trek series. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Travis C An amazing introduction to a new era of Trek. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/09/24 Full Review Wayne L The show has a fresh take on the classic ear of Star Trek. The performances are good and the stories entertaining. I think time will be kinder to it than the audience is today. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/09/24 Full Review Jason R It had some good moments but overall not good. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/09/24 Full Review Antihrist P If I could give it 0 starts, I'd do it. This whole show was simply a cheesy B-level series with too much budget thrown into it - and the money didn't help. First of all, the most memorable impression after watching it is the amount of crying which would put Latin telenovelas at shame. It desperately tries to be emotional, but fails horribly. Maybe because the acting is so bad that you simply can not connect to any of the characters. Maybe because the plot is all over the place with no clear direction and suffers from a severe case of deus ex machina extravaganza. Maybe because characters die and are being revived on a whim of the authors, making all of the emotional charge completely pointless. Or maybe it's because a lot of the crying and "emotions" is forced and completely out of place. And that's all only if you watch it as a stand-alone show. If you watch it as Star Trek - oh, man... Where to even begin. First of all, the authors of this overblown telenovela had the audacity to literally end the Federation, in the most blatant and dumb way possible. That's just disrespectful to generations who grew up with Star Trek which the authors of this junk simple didn't have right to. Second, but not less important, it has no connection whatsoever to what Start Trek really is. It really looks like the authors hated Star Trek universe so much that they were ready to blow insane amounts of money just to ruin the whole universe and everything it represents. I would not recommend it to anyone. Even if you are not a Star Trek fan, this show is objectively really bad in all of its aspects - even if you watch it as a stand-alone show outside of the official Star Trek universe. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/10/23 Full Review Alexander A. M Watching this season was a painful slog. The writing felt uninspired and counterintuitive to what makes Star Trek Star Trek. The characterization was so gratingly annoying that at times I had panic attacks. And let's not speak of the spastic editing… The acting is OK. They do their best with what they're given (except for Tilly with the frizzy hair, <how is that Starfleet regulation?>). She is the worst part of this show. I was so bored that I kept forgetting what had happened and had to have my girlfriend explain. This wasn't as bad as Picard, but it's close. Most Star Trek shows took a season or two to get their footing. I've loved the charm of all the Treks. But, in this season, this one is lacking. So maybe, with a lot of effort, it'll eventually pick up…? (I made it to season 3 and stopped watching after a few episodes) Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Eric Deggans NPR This show has boldly tried re-inventing and updating Trek, and, after the first episode, it works. Nov 25, 2019 Full Review Hugo Rifkind Times (UK) Star Trek doesn't leave any gaps. Nor, I expect, will it. We will see the aliens, see the distant worlds. Nothing will be figurative, nothing will be implied, there will be no endless, unseen mystery about which to thrill. Dec 29, 2017 Full Review Alison Herman The Ringer Going into the second half of its season, Discovery has kinks to work out, but it's laid the all-important groundwork for a rich and tight-knit ensemble. Nov 14, 2017 Full Review Alan French Sunshine State Cineplex Far more emotional than other Trek shows, this is for those who wish to feel the big earnest emotion of a sci-fi epic while still peppering in enough moral quandaries to keep us engaged.
