    • Place a pencil into the pencil holder on your compass. Then, place the point in the center of a piece of paper.
    • Turn the top of the compass while keeping the point still. The pencil will draw a circle that is perfectly centered around the point.
  2. Watermark wikiHow to Draw a Star
Then, move the point of your compass until it is on top of the dot. Do not change the radius of the compass as you are moving it.
  3. Watermark wikiHow to Draw a Star
Repeat this on the right side of the point that you drew.
  4. Watermark wikiHow to Draw a Star
Make another mark on the edge of the circle.

  6. Watermark wikiHow to Draw a Star
Use a ruler to create a triangle that starts from the top mark on the edge of the circle.
    • Place your pencil on the top mark. Skip the first mark to the left and connect the top mark to the second mark to the left.
    • Draw a second mark straight across to the right, skipping the mark on the bottom.
    • Finish by connecting that mark to the top mark. This will complete your first triangle.
  7. Watermark wikiHow to Draw a Star
    • Place your pencil on the bottom mark. Connect it with the second mark to the left by drawing a straight line.

Draw a little square in the center, then four triangles on each side. You can make the square tilted a little, so the corners are pointing up and down, and draw the triangles on the tilted sides.

Tips

  • Practice a lot.
  • To help children remember how to draw a 5-point star, use this rhyme from Eric Carle: "Down, over, left and right, draw a star, oh so bright."
  • When drawing the 7 Pointed Star Type 1, you may feel like drawing a 5-pointed star instead. Try to avoid the feeling by practicing more.

Article SummaryX

To draw a star, start by drawing an upside-down “V” on the page, and don’t pick up your pencil from the paper. From there, draw a diagonal line upward and to the left, crossing your first line. Then, draw a straight horizontal line across the paper, ending at the right side. Finish your star by drawing a diagonal line downward and to the left to meet the starting point of the upside-down “V.” If you don’t want the middle lines to be visible, you can erase them and leave just a star outline. To learn more, like how to draw a 6- or 7-pointed star, keep reading the article!
