5.0 out of 5 starsI LOVED the second-half of season 1, well worth the frustrating first half!!!!
The first half of the season was frustrating because Star Trek philosophy was less prominent than romantic relationships. The second half of the season philosophically crushed it--asking "what makes us human" in some awesome ways.
I love romance as a genre, don't get me wrong. I appreciate gay couples portrayed well. There is twice as much kissing, gay and straight kissing, in this season than any other season of Star Trek ever, why?
How does a Vulcan raised human have more emotional expression than other characters?

1.0 out of 5 starsI support the gays, but I don't want to watch men kissing.
Nihilistic PC garbage with no greater belief in the potential for humanity that has always been the unifying theme of Star Trek. All Mirror World gimmicks instead of meaningful allegory for important events. I have no problem with the gays or even gay characters. That does not mean I want to watch homosexual sex acts on television. Was this shock value? If you want to do a love scene, do a scene that will appeal to the 90% instead of the 10%.

1.0 out of 5 starsSigh.. this sucks
I can’t stand the creative license taken with the franchise up to this point. I tolerated it with the JJ Abraham’s reboot which freshened asthetics, but did not revise species. This series even went so far as to attach completely new and unnecessary characters and story lines to already established cannon that does not advance the story of that cannon at all. What the hell happened to Sisko, Jake, O’Brien, Riker, Worf, , Jordi, Torres, Kira, Odo, Seven, Chakotay, and the others? What happened to the deeper philosophical and ethical themes of Star Trek? What happened to the federation after the fall of the Dominion in the Alpha Quadrant? The fall of the Borg conduit system? The Janeway temporal incursion? The Maquee?
By the way, organic matter interconnecting all of the universe is more fiction than science fiction. The force has no place in a Star Trek.

I will say this: Anthony Rapp and Wilson Cruz give outstanding performances at Paul and Hugh. That also goes for Michelle Yeoh and Jason Issacs.

But there are far too many supporting characters that just stand in the background and aren’t developed or even discovered at all. That breaks with the successful recipe that we as fans know, love and want.

5.0 out of 5 starsDont believe all the Hate!
Seriously don't believe the hate, most of which derives from the reviewers actually disliking the CBS ALL ACCESS service. Yes the ALL ACCESS Service is a terrible cash cow scheme by CBS. The show itself is very very good, it is not your typical Trekie show, it has a more grit then all of the other shows combined. The CGI is absolutely stellar along with the acting. There were some very serious plot twists in season one that were probably not expected by many. As for the critcism I hear from people concerning the main character Michael Burnham. Yes, Michael is girl, not a boy.....who cares if she has a boys name, not sure why it's such a big deal? One twist of the main Star Trek universe people are freaking out about, is that it is revealed that Michael is the adopted sister of Spock. Since this is the first we are hearing about her people are freaking and saying its not real, she doesn't belong! I ask that you give her a chance, Michael is awesome! Similar to that of spock, Michael was raised on Vulcan, largely shaped by Vulcan culture. This can give her the appearance of being cold and analytical, but she does have a human side and it shows. This is a good show and it deserves better the CBS All Access garbage, if you have access to NETFLIX outside the US it is available there. But if you are stuck with CBS and NETFLIX inside the US, then I encourage you to get CBS All Access starting Jan 2019 until season 2 finishes or wait a long time for the season 2 dvd/bluray.

2.0 out of 5 starsWhat is Wrong with CBS?
I like Star Trek TV shows, and so I watched Season One. So now why can't we get Season Two? I prefer to use Amazon purchase of CBS shows and not go to their web site because there stream to me in the bush sucks! Come on CBS!

5.0 out of 5 starsExcellent
Season 1 is excellent. Don't understand all the reviews complaining about not being able to watch Season 2 when it isn't even done with production yet. It was never advertised as being available until early 2019. I can't wait to watch it either, but be patient. It takes a while to do movie quality productions. Other than previews and trailers, they've always said it would be that long before they could complete and release season 2. It's coming.

1.0 out of 5 starsAn abomination that goes against everything trek stands for
First of all, putting the show behind yet another pay-wall goes against the accessibility of the show. Second, the franchise has been pushed more toward action and less toward an exploration of social constructs of the future. If I want to watch action in space I will go watch star wars.

4.0 out of 5 starsDifferent premise than other Star Treks
I not sure if I like this, or just hungry for more Star Trek. It's pretty good, well acted. All of the other Star Trek series revolve around the captain (who is the main character), the bridge crew, and a couple of other main characters, e.g. Scottie, Seven of Nine etc. Not this one, and I'm not sure if that's why I don't like it even more. There are bridge crew who are not well defined and I can't even remember their names. Have lost quite a few characters in the first season who I did like, and yet keep recycling old characters. Will watch second season and hope it improves. I gave it a four which may have been a stretch, but like I said the acting is good.
