I'm still very upset at how that just dropped off the face of the earth.

I wouldn't call this a trailer more like a teaser or preview as the clip is titled on YouTube.

I've loved Yaya since my youth and glad she left Chicago Med on a leap of faith because they were destroying the show and her character. She looks incredible and confident, something her April character couldn't be. This video doesn't tell me anything else though.

What happened to Latoya? I thought she was cast for this show.

God, they completely ruined the premise of this book. Black single mother...haircare....Lee Daniels?! The same idiot who put Taraji in a gorilla suit on the opening of the second or third season of Empire?

This stupid tv show shouldn't have been named after that book. Interesting that he died in February and the filming for this shitty show started in June... I guess he would never have agreed to this bullshit but as soon as he died, producers courted his widow..

edit : apparently he was indeed writing for the show. maybe from the upper class point of view, since lee daniels is good at ratchet stuff only,

The plot and concept falls flat completely if so.

The superiority most of these people feigned for generations had to do with the violence of colorism. I hear you, but it kind of seems like another way to re-write OUR history.

And I'm tired of that.

The first season of Revenge is some of the best television I have seen! Great writing and acting

Yaya is so stunning! Sheeesh
I’m so conflicted Lee Daniels is the absolute worst but I do want to support a show with this premise. It seems to be loosely based on the book but I don’t think it will be a historically accurate account. Colorism is kind of the elephant in the room with a lot of old money Black families.
The trailer feels like a night time soap opera/ Dynasty/Have Nots to me as other fonts have noticed.

First off, Yaya is gorgeous! I’m so glad to see her career still going strong.

Second, the cast sounds beautiful and talented af. Yaya, Morris, Nadine Ellis and Joe Morton? I’m in.

I do have reservations though because of Lee Daniels. I’ll give it a watch and hopefully he didn’t leave his mark on there.

Also, I had no idea that they were making the book into a show. I wonder if they’ll do a tribute to Laurence since he just recently passed away.

I really wish these tired stereotypes weren't repeated as facts. LOG himself was brown skinned.

Now was colorism and hair texture and features a point of contention? Yes. But non-elite Black folks had the same issues too...as seen with how folks in 2021 who aren't from elite backgrounds have stories about hurtful comments made about their skin tone, their hair, and their nose and lips.

Ugh, hate Lee Daniels. I'll watch the 1st episode just for Yaya and take from there
