Stade Josy Barthel (Luxembourg City)

The Stade Josy Barthel is the current national stadium of Luxembourg, hosting the country’s national football and rugby union teams. Originally known as the Stade Municipal when it opened in 1931, the stadium was completely rebuilt in 1990 and was renamed after Joseph (“Josy”) Barthel in 1993 – Luxembourg’s only Olympic gold medal winner.

With a capacity of just under 8,000 and surrounded by an athletics track, the stadium has been deemed outdated and is set to be replaced by the new Stade de Luxembourg in 2021.
