The Representative Office of St Petersburg University in the Republic of Moldova starts its work

The lecture was delivered by Sergei Ushchipovskiy, Associate Professor in the Department of History of Journalism at St Petersburg University, Candidate of Philology. The lecturer touched on the history of relations between the Russian and Moldovan peoples from ancient times to the collapse of the USSR. The presentation also focused on the links in foreign and domestic policy, social relations, culture, literature and journalism. The material presented was considered in the historical, socio-political and economic context of the development of Russia and Moldova. In the post-Soviet period, Moldova-Russian relations have been seriously tested. The historical memory of the peoples has been subjected to external pressure. Historical facts have sometimes been rewritten. The role and importance of Russia in the centuries-long history of Moldovan statehood, in the economic, social and cultural development of Moldova have been distorted. Meanwhile, Russia and the USSR made a significant contribution to the preservation of ‘Moldovan identity’ against the background of external threats. 

The lecture, attended by more than 100 people, was held as part of the celebrations of the 300th anniversary of St Petersburg University.

To date, nine representative offices of St Petersburg University have been opened in: the Republic of Korea (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies); China (Harbin Institute of Technology); Spain (the Cultural Foundation "Russian House in Barcelona"); Italy (the University for Foreigners of Siena); Greece (the Centre of the Russian Language and Culture "Russian Word"); Thailand (Walailak University); Iran (the University of Tehran); Moldova (Slavonic University in the Republic of Moldova); and Uzbekistan (the Navoi Free Economic Zone).
