Baseball Dominates in Game Two of Doubleheader Split Versus Plattsburgh

First-year slugger Matt Davis was scorching hot offensively going 6-for-8 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles, while Sean Desjardins and Timothy Connor combined for two home runs and seven RBI as the St. Lawrence University baseball team salvaged a twin bill split with Plattsburgh winning 9-0 in game two at Tom Fay Field on Wednesday afternoon.

St. Lawrence moved to 7-16 with the results, while the Cardinals went to 17-9.

Desjardins, who flashed the leather for four assists and three assists, went 4-for-8 with an opposite-field home run, three runs, and four RBI on the day, while his fellow infielder Connor went 3-for-8 with a homer and three RBI.

Brett Federico had three RBI on the day, while John Gannon and Willie Landman each had two.

Christian Mingione pitched four innings of three-hit, no-run ball in game two striking out one and earning the win. Brenden O'Neil pitched effectively to start game one facing six batters giving up no hits and striking out a pair.

Game 1: St. Lawrence 9, Plattsburgh 10 (7 innings)

It was all Saints early in the first game of the twin bill with the Scarlet and Brown jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the first two innings.

Gannon was the first to drive in a run capitalizing on a single and a hit by pitch that put runners on for his double to left center field. The lead would go to 2-0 when Landman drove in a run on a ground out in the next at-bat.

In the second, the Saints would use a pair of singles, and a walk to load up the bases. Federico would scorch a double down the left-field line to bring in two before a pair of RBI from Gannon and Landman ballooned the score to 6-0.

The Cardinals would start chipping away getting three runs in the third to cut the deficit in half.

St. Lawrence would then regain the six-run lead in the fourth when Desjardins and Davis drove in runs with two outs away in the inning.

Al Kornblau turned the game around in the fifth with a solo shot that jumpstarted the offense. Plattsburgh would proceed to score five runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game before getting a tenth run in the top of the seventh to eventually earn the win.

Game 2: St. Lawrence 9, Plattsburgh 0 (7 innings)

Game two started slower with the first run coming across home in the bottom of the second. After a pair of singles and a double, Stephen Colangelo laid down a squeeze bunt in sacrifice fashion to bring a runner home.

Desjardins would put the Saints up three in the bottom half of the second when a lazy curveball was drilled out to right field and over the field to score two runs and triple the lead at 3-0.

Connor would follow suit in the bottom of the fifth when he followed a Jackson Brinker double with a no-doubt home run to left-center to make it 5-0 St. Lawrence.

The lead would keep growing as Davis hammered a double to right center field to score two more in the bottom of the sixth. Connor and Federico joined the party with RBI later in the inning to make it a 9-0 game.

JJ Humenay came on in relief for Teaghin Andre, who pitched two innings, and slammed the door and secured the win.
