St. Hilda’s & St. Hugh’s is a co-ed, Episcopal day school for children age 2- grade 8. Founded in 1950, the school endeavors to create a community diverse in race, culture, socio-economic status, and religious beliefs. Our play-based early childhood program leads to a traditional liberal arts curriculum guided by dedicated, accomplished faculty. Our bright, thoughtfully designed building reflects the intellectual and cultural energy of our neighborhood and our beloved city. As a school founded on the principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, we are committed to the work of honoring and protecting the sanctity, dignity, and worth of every person. Together we approach education as a sacred endeavor, grounded in exploration, discovery, and joy. Our students graduate from eighth grade academically prepared, as well as morally centered people of conscience and character, ready to use their inherent gifts and the benefits of their education to create a more just and productive world.

We believe that children learn best through a play-based approach as it helps children develop holistically. As part of their classroom community, our two year olds enjoy thoughtfully designed learning experiences, as well as inspiring materials that encourage them to use their imaginations, socialize with their classmates, and express themselves through language.

St. Hilda's & St. Hugh's School Reviews
This K(actually beginners) to 8 has helped our children grow academically as well as emotionally in a diverse, academically challenging yet nurturing environment. The small class sizes and the dedication of each teacher has helped shaped our children to become critical independent thinkers. Our 8th grader felt well positioned and supported to navigate the competitive high school admissions process. He got into his first choice.
There are countless unique and beloved school- wide traditions including the Thanksgiving chain (which helps stock a local food kitchen) and the Christmas pageant. SHSH is a true gem on the UWS.
