Krusty Koncessionaires

Original air date: 11/7/2020 (produced in 2019)

The Krusty Krab runs concessions at the big Low-Tides concert in Bikini Bottom. As SpongeBob sells Krabby Patties to the audience, Mr. Krabs tries to subliminally advertise the Krusty Krab to the audience and Squidward attempts to meet the band's clarinetist Claire St. Claire.

The episode has examples of:

  • Be the Ball: Every time the security guard catches Mr. Krabs, he does this to Mr. Krabs and throws him into the audience, where the audience members proceed to bounce Krabs around like a volleyball.
  • The Cameo: Grubby Grouper from "Bubble Buddy" is seen coming out of the bathroom.
  • Character Development: SpongeBob seems to get a little suspicious when Squidward distracts him into serving one side of the crowd so he doesn't follow him into the studio, as he was looking forward to spending time with him. He also thinks twice about what he's told before going with it anyway, compared to how he was in previous episodes.
  • Concert Episode: The episode takes place at a Low Tides concert with SpongeBob selling as many krabby patties as he can in the stands, Squidward trying to meet Claire St. Claire backstage, and Mr. Krabs trying to get on stage to hang a banner promoting the Krusty Krab.
  • Diegetic Soundtrack Usage: At their impromptu performance, SpongeBob, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs perform "Peg Leg Waltz", one of the show's original soundtrack introduced in season 7.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: SpongeBob seems to make a valid explanation when being asked by Squidward to serve only one side of the stadium while he does the other, as he wanted to spend time with him, but this was done secretly so he does not follow Squidward backstage and annoy him.
  • Everyone Has Standards: When Squidward is luring SpongeBob into sticking to serving one half of the stadium so he doesn't follow him backstage, SpongeBob is at first hesitant with this idea, as he wanted to spend time with Squidward, and sounded genuinely disappointed at such.
  • Extra-Long Episode: The seventh standard episode and third this season that is longer than 11 minutes.
  • Eye Scream: SpongeBob launches krabby patties into Fred's eyes.
  • Fan Disservice: Mr. Krab's accidental cirque de soleil act ends with him inadvertently mooning the audience, leaving the audience disgusted.
  • Funny Background Event: The names of SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward's respective voice-actors can be seen on doors backstage (and apparently poor Bill Fagerbakke and Rodger Bumpass's dressing room is a restroom).
  • Imagine Spot: Squidward has one where he plays his clarinet on stage and becomes famous.
  • Partially-Concealed-Label Gag: Inverted. This episode features Mr. Krabs with a new advertising banner for the Krusty Krab:
    The Krusty Krab
    Krabby Patties are yummy
    Please your face
    Tonight would be great!
However, the banner gets bent as he tries to get it up on the concert stage, it reads
    The Krusty Krab
    Krummy
    Place
    To eat!
The crowd isn't impressed.
  • Produce Pelting: The audience throw their krabby patties at Mr. Krabs when it looks like his banner is advertising krabby patties as krummy instead of yummy.
  • Rock & Roll: The Low Tides play this type of music.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: To ensure SpongeBob doesn't follow him backstage, Squidward distracts him by confining him to serving only one half of the stadium. When SpongeBob finishes his entire side and sees the other side starving and Squidward not back yet, he reassures Squidward wouldn't mind if he serves them and proceeds to do so.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The mere sight of Squidward looking like he's about to play a clarinet is enough to send the entire audience running for the hills.
  • Suspiciously Apropos Music: The Low-Tides' song "Feeding Frenzy", which plays as SpongeBob continues to give the audience Krabby Patties with a Krabby Patty launcher.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: The combined efforts of SpongeBob, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs end up ending the concert prematurely, but The Low-Tides themselves are impressed by the trio's impromptu performance after they ended up on stage and Claire St. Claire gives Squidward a sincere compliment on Squidward's clarinet playing.
  • Visual Pun: After getting complimented by Claire St. Claire, Squidward claims that he can now "die happy" and proceeds to die there on the spot with a smile on his face. Mr. Krabs pulls Squidward's spirit back down into Squidward's body, because Krabs still needs Squidward to run the cash register at the Krusty Krab.
  • We Need a Distraction: To ensure SpongeBob doesn't follow him backstage, Squidward keeps him occupied with sticking to one half of the crowd while he does the other half. SpongeBob is disappointed at this, as he was looking forward to spending the whole day with him, but does so anyway.
  • Your Head Asplode: When the security guard catches Squidward backstage, he squeezes Squidward so hard that Squidward's head pops like a balloon.

Dream Hoppers

Original air date: 11/7/2020 (produced in 2019)

SpongeBob goes on a musical chase after a stubborn Krabby Patty through the dreams of other Bikini Bottomites.

The episode provides examples of:

  • The Chase: The plot involves SpongeBob (and later Patrick) chasing a Krabby Patty that SpongeBob was attempting to deliver through other people's dreams.
  • Closer than They Appear: As the krabby patty flies the plane, he notices SpongeBob approaching in both the plane's rearview mirrors.
  • The Dog Bites Back: In Squidward's dream, the paintings come to life, capture SpongeBob and Patrick, and bring them to Squidward, who is king. Squidward then gleefully uses SpongeBob and Patrick as brushes to paint with.
  • Dream Walker: Once again, SpongeBob enters the dreams of others, but this time the focus is more on the chase after the runaway Krabby Patty that what's actually happening in the characters' dreams.
  • Immediate Sequel: The episode appears to pick up where "Krusty Koncessionaires" left off, showing a tired SpongeBob returning to his pineapple while wearing the Krabby Patty launcher he used to give people Krabby Patties at the concert.
  • Marshmallow Dream: The krabby patty jumps down Squidward's throat, causing him to choke. Afterwards, Squidward wakes up to find that he's choking on his pillow.
  • Mime and Music-Only Cartoon: With the exception of the intro to the episode, the only vocals in the episode are grunts, shouts, and screams from the characters.
  • Mythology Gag:
  • Nightmare Sequence: Mr. Krabs is shown having a nightmare wherein he's employed as a janitor under Plankton who has the Krusty Krab Secret Formula.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: The airplane from SpongeBob's dream crash-lands onto the Chum Bucket, but we are never shown the aftermath of the resulting explosion, nor does Plankton appear in the episode outside of Mr. Krabs's bad dream.
