Spellbound is a 1945 American film noir psychological mystery thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The film stars Ingrid Bergman, Gregory Peck, Michael Chekhov and Leo G. Carroll. The film broke every record in London, in both famous theaters, Pavilion and Tivoli Strand, for a single day, week, month, holiday and Sundays.
Hitchcock's cameo appearance is a signature occurrence in almost all of his films. In Spellbound, he can be seen coming out of an elevator at the Empire State Hotel, carrying a violin case and smoking a cigarette, about 38:50 minutes into the film.

Compelling, not groundbreaking
A good film with an engaging storyine, but not excellent. As always, Hitchcock incorporates interesting design and cinematography (including an unexpected *pop* of color in this otherwise b&w film near the end) which alone are worth the viewing. That said, the ending was a bit flat with some very divergent sides of the story both tied up at once, leaving me unsure of what I was supposed to be feeling at the conclusion.

Hitchcock, Bergman, and Peck make you suspend disbelief
First let me say that I did not experience a problem with the audio/video sync, as the other reviewer did. Perhaps it was a problem with transmission or the file was fixed.
Spellbound is not among my very favorite Hitchcock films, but there are very few of his movies that I would rate poorly. This is a fine film with great performances from its stars. There is some significant suspension of disbelief required in the way that the truth is revealed through psychological analysis, with too much certainty in the conclusions by Constance Peterson (Ingrid Bergman) coming with too little knowledge, but it is easy to make that suspension of disbelief. There is strong chemistry between Bergman and Gregory Peck, and the story draws you in.

Very good movie but not the best version
I loved this movie. A good Hitchcock thriller with very good performances by Ingrid Bergman and Gregory Peck. However, the audio and the video don't quite match up. I noticed that the actors would start talking a few seconds before the audio came in, or the audio would start before their lips move.
I don't know if this is because of the movie, or just the version.
