i think this film could be significantly better with better camera direction. too many of the fight scenes are too close up and hectic, and while that might accurately depict the experience of the fighter, it doesn't make for the best or most cohesive cinematic experience. the story beats are solid enough, but it just feels like the fighting that should be the main focus of the story is too blurred and erratic.

All I can say is wow! At times i totally forgot that it was Jake Gyllenhaal. He completely transformed himself. The fight scenes were so authentic, during the final fight I literally got up out my chair and was shouting at the screen. What a performance by everyone really. As far as sports dramas go, it was excellent. Jake did an amazing job re-making his body into a fighting, killing machine. Also his character was bang on perfect. Great story line as well. If you're a Jake Gyllenhaal fan, you will absolutely love this film.
