South Pasadena Senior High School Reviews
Rating 3.7 out of 5 460 reviews
A pretty good school, in terms of academics, college readiness, and graduation rate. Teachers are a mixed bag, and experiences will differ person to person, but I find that the best teachers are often for the AP or honors classes, leaving student who don't take advanced courses behind in that respect. To add, there isn't the widest variety of AP classes. The school's culture of academics can be overbearing, and many students take their grades pretty seriously. Due to being in a small city and being in a small school, friend groups can become more like cliques. There's a good amount of opportunities available when it comes to extracurriculars and interests. In terms of mental health resources, students may have to seek it out themselves, and a lot of what I've seen is student lead, not by administration or staff. Even so, there's a pretty fun school culture involving spirit days and events.
In my experience at South Pasadena High School, I have been able to have a very good academic journey. The school takes academics very seriously and because of that I have been lucky to have very good teachers and interesting courses that have helped me to develop as an intellectual. However, the social culture unfortunately can be quite small because the school itself is located within a very tight-knit community that does not truly welcome outsiders. Therefore, while I think that the school is exceptional in its ability to provide a substantial education, I hope that the social aspect will change over time.
South Pasadena Senior High School is for sure one of the Top public highschools in the greater Los Angeles area and even all of California. The academics of this school is more STEM driven, but there are courses and extracurriculars for all interests. Definitly a 10/10 school.
