- Edited 2 years agoMy european version has surface noise and pops an crackles. Cleaned it twice but there was only small improvement.
Since the music is sometimes very subtle it's not possible to enjoy it with all the noise going on.
Sadly I have this problem with several soundtracks. I think rushing the record production to meet the realease date of the movie is a huge problem.
From now on I won't buy new soundtracks on vinyl anymore. - Edited 2 years agoGot the US & the EU press.:
- US sounds very nice but it wasn't scratch-free & there are some clicks on the last track. Record is flat.
- EU is clean, almost noise-free & heavier but came with a slight warp at the beginning of each side (i've tried 2 copies).
Both are pretty bland/cheap releases. - My pressing has a lot of surface noises on side B, even after three washings of the vinyl. Quite disappointing as the music is really quiet on some parts which makes the surface noises bigger.
Other than that, this soundtrack is a great and the mastering is really beautiful. - Edited 3 years agoThis pressing is a disgrace... First of all the record is warped, secondly it has scratches on the last couple tracks on side A which result in very loud repeated clicks throughout the respective tracks - this makes them pretty much unlistenable. On top of that the record has too much surface noise in general - it was dirty and static in the beginning, but even washing could not eliminate surface noises...
This is not my first bad experience with vinyl from the NIN store. I appreciate Trent's praise for vinyl, but the NIN organisation should really keep an eye on the quality of the pressings and improve this for future releases, because they are doing a great disservice to vinyl culture and Trent's "our music is meant to be experienced on vinyl" statements. When reading about other experiences with pressings of other NIN related Soundtracks on Discogs you get the impression that this issue is a common one...
I had very bad experiences with pressings of all 3 Watchmen soundtracks & Before The Flood as well - all had very loud surface noises, pops and clicks, even after washing them repeatedly with several vinyl cleaning systems/brushes/etc... this is not what vinyl should be about and really destroys the listening experience... I wrote this to the NIN store as well, they really need to consider changing pressing plants, this amount of bad pressings is not normal, it annihilates the good music & ridicules Trent's statements how much vinyl means to him. .
I have to add that I also had pleasant experiences with Bird Box and The Fragile Deviations Box Sets, but good pressings seem to be an exception here... I am really considering to stop buying NIN related soundtracks on vinyl. Really makes no sense at all to listen to such bad pressings...
Update: I received a replacement - this time no big warp and no scratches, BUT nevertheless quite some little pops and clicks throughout the record (especially A side), after washing the record TWICE with different systems... it's okay this time, but still the surface noise messes it up a little... I think I'm never going to buy Reznor soundtracks on vinyl again, it's annoying...
