Benedict Cumberbatch goes classic with wife Sophie Hunter at The Current War premiere...two years after film's initial release

Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife, Sophie Hunter, are often in seen in classic and elegant red carpet looks. 

The couple were out in New York for the premiere of his film The Current War. 

Cumberbatch and the theater director wore complimentary dark looks for the showing on Monday.

Sophie, 41, wore a stunning sheer white dress, beaded throughout in a black web design. 

She paired it with short black heels and had her hair swept up in a low bun, with bangs. 

The mother-of-two donned a natural rosy makeup look on her cheeks and lips, with a mild smokey eye and winged liner. 

And she went accessory-free for the night.

While the Sherlock star, 43,  sported a classic three-piece tweed suit in navy blue over a white dress shirt.

He completed the look with a brown knit tie, a white pocket square, a black leather watch and brown leather dress shoes.

He kept a similar smile for the photos, but his wife often beamed as she looked towards him. 

They married in February 2015—after making their romantic relationship public in Spring 2014—and welcomed son Christopher in June.

In 2017, their family got bigger as they welcomed a second son Hal in March. 

The two have known each other for over 20 years before marrying on the Isle Of Wight. 

In the upcoming film he takes on another historical figure in his latest film, playing Thomas Edison alongside Tuppence Middleton and Michael Shannon.

It follows Eidison during his rivalry with George Westinghouse and Nikola Tesla over who's electricity system would power the world, ahead of Chicago's World Fair in 1893.

The Current War initially premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2017, and was scheduled for a public release in November.

Harvey Weinstein was in the middle of editing the film when his allegations of sexual misconduct were made public in October 2017. 

The film was indefinitely sidelined.

Following The Weinstein Company's bankruptcy Lantern Entertainment acquired the film, along with other assets, in October 2018. 

In April 2019, Deadline reported that 101 Studious acquired distribution rights for $3 million and a wide release. 

It finally was released in the United Kingdom in July and will release in the US on October 25, two years after it was originally scheduled. 

Since the TIFF premiere five scenes have been added and 10 minutes have been trimmed.
