Sony Center in Berlin

Sony Center in Berlin

Part of the building ensemble on Potsdamer Platz in Berlin-Mitte, this impressive architectural masterpiece forms the new entertainment center of Berlin.

Seven buildings grouped around an open forum with a spectacular roof offer plenty of space for art and culture, work, living, entertainment and gastronomy.
The oval forum, which sees itself as a public urban space, is the central focus of the Sony Center. It is a popular location for major events such as product presentations, film premieres, as well as sports, art and cultural events. In the Forum you will also find the German Museum for Film and Television, which invites you to a journey through more than a century of German film history, numerous first-class restaurants that invite you to linger, as well as the "Legoland Discovery Center", which is great fun for the whole family.

The Sony Flagship-Store also offers an overview of the wide range of the name-giving company on 4 floors. The Sony Center is a must for all Berlin visitors and the first port of call for all film fans.

Short history of the Sony Center

Potsdamer Platz, pulsating since the 1920s, was almost completely destroyed in the Second World War, divided after the construction of the Berlin Wall (with video) in 1961, and then moved to a wasteland between East and West. The modern ensemble of the Sony Center, designed by the Chicago-based German star architect Helmut Jahn, was built on this historic site.
The tent-shaped white roof construction represented a spectacular engineering achievement and should resemble the Japanese mountain Fujiyama.
This extremely complex construction project took three years to complete. The entertainment area of the center was opened on January 20, 2000. It still fascinates its visitors every day with its impressing modernity.
