- Great dynamics and sound quality to this pressing! Wish it was a gatefold, but the jacket is of good material and the discs are free of problems right out of the packaging. Excellent pressing to have!
- I owned the CD since it was released and was a favorite. I got this pressing recently and it sure brings a bit more warmth and detail. 5 stars!!!
- My pressing of this album is flawless, and the SQ is excellent. No complaints from me at all. There's clarity and power throughout and the instruments are well separated. Very satisifed with this set.
- Edited 3 years agoI just ordered this 45 rpm set from Discogs and opened it yesterday. Today I got notification from Vinyl Me Please that my order of Ask The Ages was on the way..Wha? I completely forgot I ordered that in July! 33 RPM Red Vinyl. Remastered by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound. $31....Should be a fun comparison.
- Sounds quite good to me! Clean and clear, and quite spacious, pretty much you can expect from any good quality 45RPM pressing. It didn't sound particularly dry to me, though that will depend on your set-up to a certain extent. I was listening with a AT95e cart and Sennheiser HD650 headphones, which I think most would agree are warm sounding, so keep that in mind. My record was pretty quiet for surface noise, so no complaints there. My only gripes are the lack of the original artwork and the paper inner sleeves.
I paid $65.00AU for mine at a local record store in Melbourne, which was the cheapest I could find it anywhere online, but definitely above average for a new record. As usual, all the discogs sellers are having fantastical wet-dreams with their prices, if you can find it for a halfway reasonable price, grab it! The sound quality is definitely there. - Edited 3 years agoEdit/Update: Finally received my orders, and they look awesome. Great signatures from Laswell. And some bonus albums thrown in as a thank you. Happy with this order, even if it took a long time!
Anyone yet received their autographed copy from Bill Laswell’s Bandcamp page? I order the CD and LP back in January and have yet to receive any info on shipping. Starting to worry since that was over two months ago now... - Edited 4 years agoOverall sound is a B maybe a B+ It’s a bit dry, but the performance is staggering. Sonny is for the most part kind of back in the mix, which allows a certain depth to the recording as no soloist is really favored. Pharaoh shines as always, and while it’s certainly a Sharrock affair, the mix again allows substantial appreciation for the entire band. Very laid back to almost no studio effects. Flat records, a few ticks here and there but I mean a few, and overall the session just outweighs anything else as far as sonics go.
