Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

No visit to Sofia is complete without seeing this, and the nearby Monument to the Unknown Soldier, and it is worth viewing at night when floodlit as well. Also, if flying into the city there are good views from the aeroplane window if sitting on the appropriate side.

The views of Vistosha mountain at the bottom of the Boulevard make this a rather special street, especially in Spring when it is still crowned in snow. Some good bars and cafes along the Boulevard too. The restaurants tend to be expensive and better quality and service can be had in the streets of central Sofia!

Beautiful mountain, unbelievably close to the capital city ....just in 30 min from the hustle and bustle of Sofia center, you can enjoy a fresh mountain air, stunning views and /why not?/ a relaxing drink in a cosy restaurant, or if you are good enough a real mountine hike or skiing expirience. Prisless and very rare treasure for a capital city.

I had trouble locating this working church but it is located behind the President's Palace - go through the archway to the left hand side of the palace sentries. It has lovely wall paintings but, for good reasons I am sure, no photographs were allowed.

A lovely cathedral, lovely wall paintings, a must see on any visit to Sofia. A cheap permit has to be purchased from the kiosk by the entranceway for photographs to be taken.

This was our next stop after the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
We also went underground through the catacombs / necropolis.
One picture outside, one of altar area, and one of the catacomb are attached.

It was all very interesting and historic.

This very small UNESCO World Heritage site ancient church with its wall paintings is well worth a visit. Only a small handful of people are allowed in at any one time due to its size and then only for 10-15 minutes although that is adequate. However, it's probably best to arrive early to avoid coach parties. The site has decent toilets. I travelled there on the No 64 bus from the stop around the corner from Balgariya metro station - check on Google maps - using a one day travel pass bought at a metro station and with buses added as an extra to that pass. The pass has to be validated on the bus. Once the bus turns off the main road and up a hill into Boyana the stop needed is Boyansko Hantche. From there the church is reasonably, but not perfectly, sign posted. The return bus stop is in the main road.

Founded in 1904 and opening in 1907, this is the oldest and most respected theater in Bulgaria. It is located in the city center and across from City Garden. Unfortunately, I did not get to see any of the performances or even get inside. However, the grounds are impressive and there are several billboards advertising the performances, the building, done in Neo Classical style, itself is worth viewing. This is an easy and convenient stop on the way to City Garden.

Brutalism- architecture building with 3 floors.

Ground level not much. there is a cafe and a gift shop.

First floor: Three big rooms as unfortunately one of the bigger rooms was closed and one smaller room about the pre historic displays.

The second floor was about the independence drive , post Turkey and more political with a room dedicated to new archeological finds for 2023.

A reasonable in site, could be further improved.

Free parking. Ticket price 10Lev but can also buy for Boyana church with a dual ticket at 5lev and located 8 minutes away by car.
